By Jamie Barrie A mazon Wind Farm Texas recently announced its biggest wind farm to which will add over 1 million megawatt hours (MWh) of clean energy to the grid annually, operational. Amazon is currently operating 18 wind and solar projects around the U.S., and says it has plans for 35 more. The company estimates that its U.S. clean-energy projects will generate enough energy to power more than 330,000 homes. This current project was built and will be owned and operated by Lincoln Clean Energy, which develops wind and solar projects in the U.S.

However, Amazon has entered into a long-term agreement to purchase 90 percent of the facility’s output.

The Amazon Wind Farm Texas facility is located in Snyder, Scurry County, Texas and has over 100 turbines, each standing more than 300-feet tall and with a rotor diameter over double the wingspan of a Boeing 787.

“Investing in renewable energy is a win-win- win-win – its right for our customers, our communities, our business, and our planet, “Kara Hurst, Amazon’s worldwide director of sustainability, said in a recent statement. Adding, “These are import- ant steps toward reaching our long-term goal to power our global infrastructure using 100 percent renewable energy. ”According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the United States is “home to one of the largest and fastest growing wind markets in the world.” In addition to being a clean energy solution to reduce North Americas dependence on fossil fuels, Amazon estimates that its clean energy projects will generate hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars in the communities that house them.
