In partnership with owner Skyline Investments, Inc. the $80 million+ transformation blended historic preservation with modern luxury, updating 481 guest rooms, public spaces, and meeting areas. Scope included extensive interior renovations, infrastructure upgrades, and detailed restoration of architectural elements like marble floors and decorative plaster ceilings. The result is a revitalized landmark now operating as a Marriott Autograph Collection hotel.

COMPRESHENSIVE FACADE RESTORATION
HISTORIC INTERIOR REHABILIATATION
Challenge: Decades of wear and tear had compromised the terra cotta exterior. Solution: Marous Brothers meticulously replaced and repaired structural terra cotta, using molds to recreate historically accurate elements. Unlike many projects that use cheaper alternatives, they adhered to authentic restoration practices to ensure durability and historical fidelity.
Challenge: The interior had been layered with cosmetic changes over the decades, obscuring original finishes. Solution: The team carefully stripped surfaces to their original state, refinishing marble, updating lighting with custom fixtures, and replicating murals and maps that celebrate Cleveland’s history.
MECHANICAL & ENERGY EFFICIENCY UPDAGRADES
PHASED RENOVATION STRATEGY
Challenge: Outdated heating, cooling, and window systems were inefficient and incompatible with modern guest expectations. Solution: New energy-efficient windows and electric reheat systems were installed without altering the hotel’s historic appearance. The team integrated advanced HVAC systems to meet modern efficiency standards.
Challenge: The hotel had to remain operational during construction. Solution: The team coordinated phased renovations, working floor by floor to ensure a minimum of 100 rooms were always available for guests. Separate crews managed public areas and guest rooms to minimize disruptions.
Outstanding Renovation of a Cleveland Landmark Award: Hotel Cleveland received the Outstanding Renovation of a Cleveland Landmark award from the Cleveland Restoration Society and the American Institute of Architects.

Marous Brothers Construction has played a key role in restoring and remodeling The Arcade over multiple decades and phases, helping preserve and elevate one of Cleveland’s most iconic National Historic Landmarks. Our involvement began with the original $30 million renovation from 1998 to 2001, in which our Construction Management Group partnered with LR Development and Sandvick Architects to transform the long-neglected structure into a 293-room Hyatt Regency hotel with retail and dining space. The renovation required extensive interior demolition, structural reconfigurations, basement excavation, and meticulous restoration of historic elements—including the building’s 300-foot glass skylight, brass fixtures, custom storefronts, and marble finishes—while integrating modern mechanical systems.

Marous Brothers Construction served as the Design-Builder for The Westin Cleveland, a $46 million revitalization of the former Crowne Plaza (originally Bond Court Hotel) into a 510,000-square-foot, 22-story luxury hotel. In partnership with Sage Hospitality and Optima Ventures, our team managed every phase of the project—from due diligence and infrastructure assessment to full renovation of 484 guest rooms, public spaces, and a grand ballroom accommodating up to 2,000 guests. Key upgrades included façade improvements, HVAC and fire safety system modernization, new elevators, and comprehensive interior renovations. Common areas and rooms were fully refreshed with new finishes, lighting, and technology enhancements.

Marous Brothers Construction served as Construction Manager for the $112 million restoration of the iconic 32-story Book Cadillac building in downtown Detroit. Partnering with the developer, architect, consultants, and our minority partner, our team brought creativity and cost discipline to the forefront, delivering the project on an aggressive 24-month schedule. Through weekly design meetings and extensive value engineering, we identified efficient construction solutions while self-performing significant portions of the work through our Carpentry and Interior Finishes Divisions. The result is a vibrant mixed-use high-rise featuring 455 hotel rooms, 67 luxury condominiums, restaurants, a fitness center, and world-class amenities—all seamlessly integrated within a historically preserved structure.

Fidelity Hotel Cleveland, OH

Marous Brothers Construction’s Carpentry & Interior Finishes Group contributed to the transformation of The Fidelity Hotel, a historic 11-story, 68,000-square-foot building in Cleveland’s Short Vincent district. Working under The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, our team delivered guestroom and public space millwork installations across the 97-room boutique hotel. Scope included 10,000 lineal feet of crown molding, 7,000 lineal feet of baseboard, 144 arched openings, and detailed trim throughout corridors and suites. Public space work featured custom casework, paneled reception areas, tambour columns, built-in bar stations, and intricate ceiling and wall treatments. From the lobby and Club Room to the ballroom and boardroom, our team blended modern luxury with historic character, enhancing every space with care and craftsmanship.
