yourself what you love about your living room? What do you want all your friends and family to notice when they pop by? What drew you to it when you bought, rented, or built your home? Whatever that is, make it stand out! Size and height create a spotlight. Contrast and dissim- ilarity add emphasis. Another strategy to draw attention is to mute the other items in the room. By softening colour in other areas of the room, your area of interest will automatically be in the limelight! Most importantly, have fun! Let your character and your personality shine through! Flow There is nothing that makes a room reach its full design potential like having good flow. This is something I talk about often with homeowners in staging consultations. Every room needs to flow within itself, as well as with adjoining rooms, and the rest of the home. Matching is out, but complimenting is all the way in! From furniture placement to colour selections, your living room
should be a visual breath of fresh air. Here is a quick list to help keep you on track while creating a great living room flow.
• Stick to The Plan! Start with a plan of attack for how you want your room to look and feel. Remember to stick to it even though it is easy to get sidetracked. Do not jam everything you love into one space. Less is more, and additions can always be thrown in after you have your foundation set. • Furniture Placement! An important aspect of creating a good flow in a room is furni - ture layout. Your focal point, and your room layout will be your guide to the perfect final product. Find it, or create it, love it, and build
the room around it. Cozy up the room, but don’t fill it. • For adjoining rooms, use complimentary- colours, materials, finishes, or textures to pull separate areas together. From time to time, stand back and look at the big picture. Look at the room as a whole, instead of always being in the trenches focusing on the details. This gives great perspective.
