Welcome Upper School Families and Students, At Heritage Christian Academy, we believe education is more than the acquisition of knowledge—it is the shaping of hearts, minds, and lives for the glory of God. As you explore this academic catalog, I invite you to see it not only as a guide to courses and credits, but as a reflection of our commitment to holistic, Christ-centered education. Each class, elective, and academic program has been thoughtfully designed to challenge students intellectually, nurture their God-given gifts, and prepare them for lives of purpose and service. Whether pursuing advanced coursework, discovering new passions, or deepening understanding in a particular subject area, students at HCA are encouraged to grow with excellence and integrity. This year, we have made several important updates to our graduation requirements, including changes to the graduation requirements beginning with the Class of 2028. These changes reflect our continued commitment to academic excellence and college readiness, and we ask all families to review them carefully as part of the planning process. As you prayerfully consider your academic journey ahead, remember that you do not walk it alone. Our dedicated faculty, staff, and leadership team are here to support you every step of the way. Together, we look forward to another year of becoming more curious, courageous, and Christ-like.

Course Registration As you prepare for the upcoming academic year, please review the following course registration guidelines carefully. This process is designed to support thoughtful academic planning in partnership with HCA faculty and administration. Core Courses All core academic courses—English, Math, Science, History, and Bible—will be automatically assigned based on the student’s academic progression. Placement into Honors-level sections of core classes will be determined by teacher recommendation. No additional registration is required for core courses. Elective Course Selection Students are responsible for selecting their elective courses during the registration period. We encourage families to explore this catalog thoroughly to gain a full understanding of the diverse elective options available across disciplines such as fine arts, STEM, and humanities. Enrollment Planning Guide We strongly recommend using the Enrollment Planning Guide provided in this catalog to assist with long-term academic planning. This tool helps families track credit completion and graduation requirements throughout a student’s time in the Upper School.

Important Considerations

● Many courses have limited enrollment capacity. In the event of scheduling conflicts or space limitations, upperclassmen will be given preference to ensure completion of graduation requirements. ● While every effort will be made to honor student preferences, elective placements are subject to availability and master schedule constraints. If you have questions about course selection or planning, please contact the Upper School office or schedule a meeting with the Director of College Guidance.

Academic Policies and Procedures At Heritage Christian Academy, we believe academic planning is a collaborative process that helps students grow in responsibility and purpose. We encourage students to create a multi-year academic plan in partnership with their parents and with guidance from the Director of College Guidance. Our academic requirements align with the State of Kansas and are designed to prepare students for both college and calling. Academic Planning & Schedule Adjustments Students will receive their finalized class schedule just before the start of each semester. During the first five academic days of each semester, students can request course changes. The administration reserves the right to adjust a student’s schedule as needed to support academic success, ensure graduation requirements are met, and balance class sizes. Full-Time Enrollment & Course Load HCA is a full-time academic program. Students in grades 6–11 are required to enroll in all eight class periods each semester, and students in 12th grade must enroll in a minimum of six courses per semester. Enrollment in a college-level course—whether in person or online—may count toward a senior’s course load only with prior approval from the Director of College Guidance. Seniors may request early dismissal privileges, but these must be approved in advance. Without approval, students will be automatically enrolled in a full schedule, and daily attendance is required. External Courses In general, students are expected to fulfill HCA graduation requirements through courses offered by HCA. Outside courses—including those taken online, through summer school, or via homeschool programs—will not be accepted in place of HCA offerings except in rare circumstances and with prior approval from the administration.

HCA Upper School Academic Catalog | 2025-26

6

To be considered for HCA credit, outside courses must: ● Be necessary for extenuating circumstances. ● Be pre-approved by the Director of College Guidance. ● Be aligned with HCA’s academic standards, including rigor, syllabus, and learning objectives. ● Be offered by an accredited institution. ● Result in an official transcript or completion record submitted directly to the Director of College Guidance. As a matter of academic integrity, an HCA diploma should reflect an HCA-approved education. Substitutions for required courses will be rare and granted only when extenuating circumstances apply. Honor Roll & Grading Scale At Heritage Christian Academy, we are committed to cultivating academic excellence and recognizing students who demonstrate consistent achievement in their coursework. Honor Roll Distinctions Honor Roll is acknowledged at the end of each academic semester and reflects a student’s weighted Grade Point Average (GPA) based on completed coursework for that quarter. ● Principal’s Honor Roll: 4.00 and above ● High Honor Roll: 3.85 – 3.99 ● Honor Roll: 3.70 – 3.84 Grading Scale ● HCA uses a 4.0 GPA scale for standard high school courses. ● Approved honor and dual credit courses are weighted on a 5.0 scale to reflect their increased rigor and college-level expectations. These GPA values are used for class rank, semester grades, and academic honors at graduation.

HCA Upper School Academic Catalog | 2025-26

7

Final Exam Policy Final Exams are an important part of the academic experience at HCA, designed to encourage long-term retention and comprehensive understanding. ● Final Exams are required for all students in grades 9–12 in core academic subjects (English, Math, Science, History, and Bible). ● Exams take place during the final three days of each semester. ● Final Exams are comprehensive, covering material taught throughout the semester. ● Final Exams are not given semester 2 for Seniors.

Semester Grade Calculation Semester Grades are calculated using the following formula:

(Q1 Grade) x .40 + (Q2 Grade) x .40 + (Final Exam Grade) x .20 = Semester Grade

For second semester courses, this calculation includes Quarter 3, Quarter 4, and the second semester exam. This approach ensures that students are assessed both on consistent performance and cumulative knowledge.

Middle School Elective Details Each Middle School student will choose two electives per semester, one for A Days and one for B Days. Students may enroll in the same elective more than once across different semesters. In fact, repeating electives is often necessary and encouraged as a way to deepen skills and explore familiar interests in new ways. However, students are expected to participate with full effort and a positive attitude each time, regardless of prior experience with the course. Each semester brings a new class dynamic, new opportunities for growth, and the chance to make a fresh contribution.
