HS Math Dept. Algebra I
Required
Instructor: Mrs. Jessica Berch
9th Grade, Full Year Algebra I covers a variety of topics including expressions, equations, functions, solving and graphing linear equations and functions, solving and graphing linear inequalities, systems of equations and inequalities, exponents and exponential functions, polynomials and factoring, quadratic equations and functions, data analysis, and probability. The purpose of this class is to prepare the student for Algebra II. Curriculum: Algebra I , Holt McDougal Larson (2012) (H) Geometry Required Instructor: Mrs. Jessica Berch 9th Grade, Full Year Honors Geometry is offered to students who have successfully completed Algebra I. Topics studied include: reasoning and logic, applying properties of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional geometric figures, transformations, measurements, and an introduction to right triangle trigonometry. Curriculum: Geometry , Holt McDougal Larson (2011) Geometry Required Instructor: Mrs. Jessica Berch 10th Grade, Full Year Geometry is offered to students who have successfully completed Algebra I. Topics studied include: reasoning and logic, applying properties of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional geometric figures, transformations, measurements, and an introduction to right triangle trigonometry. Curriculum: Geometry , Holt McDougal Larson (2011) (H) Algebra II Required Instructor: Mrs. Jessica Berch 10th Grade, Full Year Honors Algebra II is offered to students who have successfully completed Algebra I and Geometry or Honors Geometry. Honor Algebra II covers topics more quickly and in greater depth than in Algebra II. A strong work ethic and motivation to learn are essential for a student to be successful in Honors Algebra II. Topics studied include interpreting & manipulating algebraic functions (linear, absolute value, quadratic, higher-degree polynomials, exponential, radical, logarithmic, and rational). Additional topics include Conics, Probability, Data Analysis and Statistics, Sequences and Series, and an Introduction to Trigonometry. Students will be able to solve and simplify algebraic expressions using a variety of representations (including matrices) by hand and with the use of graphing calculator technology. Curriculum: Algebra II , Holt McDougal Larson (2012) Algebra II Required Instructor: Mrs. Jessica Berch 11th Grade, Full Year This course focuses on key topics that provide a strong foundation in Algebra. Topics covered include linear, quadratic and other polynomial functions, radicals, exponential and logarithmic functions, probability, conic sections, and an introduction to trigonometry. Curriculum: Algebra 2: Concepts and Skills , Holt McDougal, Larson, Boswell, Kanold, Stiff (H) (DC) Pre-Calculus Elective Instructor: Dr. Mark Brown 11th or 12th Grade, Full Year Pre-Calculus covers both college algebra and trigonometry objectives. It starts by reviewing prerequisites in Algebra then covers functions and their graphs, polynomial and rational functions, exponential functions, trigonometry, analytic trigonometry, systems of equations and inequalities, and matrices and determinants. Students enrolled in this course may dually enroll and receive college credit through MidAmerica Nazarene University. Curriculum: Pre-Calculus , Eighth Edition, Larson
