9th Grade, Full Year This course covers introductory topics in chemistry and physics and prepares students for upper level courses in these areas. Topics covered include scientific method, measurement, force, motion, simple machines, periodic motion, sound, electromagnetic energy, light, nuclear reactions, kinetic theory, and atomic structure, classification of matter, chemical bonds and chemical reactions. Many lab activities give students first hand knowledge of the laws and principles covered in this course. Curriculum: Physical Science, BJU Press Biology Required Instructor: Ms. Nichole Werbin 10th Grade, Full Year This course examines God’s creation through a Biblical Worldview. Students will study the scientific method, cell structure and function, mitosis/meiosis, DNA structure and replication, protein synthesis, genetics, history of life from a Biblical worldview, systematics, and a comprehensive study of the 7 kingdoms of life (archaebacteria, eubacteria, protozoa, chromista, fungi, plantae, and animalia). Students will use microscopes, run experiments, model various biological processes, observe living animals, and various animal dissections. If time permits a field trip to the Kansas City Zoo is included. Curriculum: Biology , BJU Press (H) Anatomy & Physiology Elective Instructor: Ms. Nichole Werbin 12th Grade, Full Year This course will examine the intricate design of the human body that God has fearfully and wonderfully created. Students will examine the structure and functions of the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, cardiovascular, endocrine, respiratory, digestive, urinary and reproductive systems. Hands on labs for each of the systems are involved throughout the course. Dissection labs include: mink musculature, sheep brain, cow eye, pig heart, pig kidney, mink circulatory and respiratory system, mink digestive and excretory system, and fetal pig.
