Intro to Engineering & Design

Elective

10th-12th Grade, Full Year Introduction to Engineering introduces students to design principles that they will use in future engineering applications. Students learn sketching, orthographic sketching and CAD applications of designs. Students leave with an understanding of how engineers seek to solve real world problems. Introduction to Design introduces students to drawing with an emphasis in vector based image manipulation, logo design, composition and digital arrangement.

10th-12th Grade, Full Year This foundational course in the high school engineering pathway introduces students to core concepts in fields like mechanics, structural design, and automation. Through hands-on projects and problem-solving challenges, students develop essential skills in math, science, and technology while exploring what it means to think like an engineer. Computer Science Principles Elective Instructor: Mr. Steve Adams 10th-12th Grade, Full Year In this project-based course, students explore the foundations of computer science while developing problem-solving and computational thinking skills. Working in teams, they use creative tools to tackle real-world challenges, examine tech-driven career paths, and consider the societal impact of computing.

HS Fine Arts Electives Advanced Art Elective

Instructor: Mrs. Kristin Howard

11th-12th Grade, Semester Advanced Art is a studio course in which the student has more opportunity to develop a higher level of personal expression and technical skill in visual art. Creative thought and individual aesthetic preferences will be explored in hopes of developing a personal artistic style. A sketchbook will chronicle artistic growth and inspiration. Students will work on individual projects, approved by the instructor, focusing on their choice of media and style. Students will be asked to provide inspiration and goals for each project of choice. Students will prepare and present their work for display, critiques, and build portfolios. Audition Workshop Elective Instructor: Ms. Starr Peterson 9th-12th Grade, Semester Required for Spring Play and Repertory Theater, this class helps you refine your audition skills, choose the right monologues, and learn what to expect in a real audition. Build confidence and perform with intention! Band Elective Instructor: Mr. Brant Challacombe 9th-12th Grade, Full Year High School Band meets four days a week as an academic class. Students in High School Band are eligible to participate in KSHSAA state contests for solo, ensemble, and large groups. High School Band students are eligible to audition for All District and All State Band. With diligence, skill, and grit, High School Band students have a world of opportunities open for them both in high school and beyond. Students will be assessed through playing tests, class participation, and performances. The High School Band performs during the school year and in the KSHSAA Large Group Contest. High school band students also have the opportunity to join Jazz Band.
