Instructor: Mr. Octavius Womack

9th-12th Grade, Semester Choir class is designed to give students an outlet to praise God with song while developing their musicianship and interacting positively with their peers. Each week during Choir class, students will: 1. Sing a variety of appropriate musical literature; 2. Practice healthy singing technique; 3. Utilize exercises that develop music literacy; 4. Engage in creating a positive environment that is unique in the school setting. Drawing Elective Instructor: Mrs. Kristin Howard 10th-12th Grade, Semester This course focuses on developing skills and techniques specific to drawing. Students will work on handling line, texture, shading, observational drawing, and creating composition. Drawing exercises will focus on contour line, value, positive and negative space, proportion, depth, and contrast. Media used will be graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, pastel and ink. Students will draw from life and reference photos. Individual projects will encourage creative expression and demonstration of skill development.

12th Grade, Full Year This course is for students serving as yearbook editors, providing leadership in planning, organizing, and producing the school’s annual publication. With a focus on servant leadership, collaboration, and excellence, students learn to steward their gifts while guiding their peers. Honors credit reflects the high level of responsibility, excellence, and spiritual maturity required to lead and serve in this role. Intro to Art Elective Instructor: Mrs. Kristin Howard 9th-12th Grade, Semester This course is an introduction to art through a variety of media and techniques. Students will learn to identify and apply the elements of art and principles of design through project based learning. Areas of study include composition, drawing, shading, use of color, observation and evaluation of work. The purpose of this course is to give students a foundation of skills and techniques that will improve the quality of their creative projects. Completion of this course is required to enroll in future art electives. Painting Elective Instructor: Mrs. Kristin Howard 10th-12th Grade, Semester This course is an exploration of painting through instruction and studio work. Students will develop skills in brush and palette knife work, color mixing, underpainting, wet into wet, dry brush and other painting techniques. Various styles of painting will be introduced including impressionism, realism, abstract, and collage. Mediums include acrylic, oil and watercolor. Students will have the opportunity to develop the skills introduced as they work on individual projects of choice in the categories of landscape, portraits, still life, and floral. Students will also study examples of different painting styles from various historical artists. Students will build a body of work that highlights their individual skills and creative expression.
