Kennedy Receives State of Ohio Grant for Facility Upgrades
The Kennedy Family was honored to welcome Ohio State Representative David Thomas and State Senator Sandra O’Brien this fall for a tour of our Upper Campus. We were able to demonstrate the numerous upgrades to our building using the State of Ohio Facilities Improvement Grant awarded in 2024. The upgrades center on crucial facility improvements, beginning with an electrical system upgrade to ensure the entire building can safely and reliably support modern technology and equipment, which is foundational for all subsequent technical and educational enhancements. Next, providing classroom furniture for all science classrooms was vital for student comfort, engagement, and collaborative learning across the science curriculum. The most significant renovations targeted specific learning environments: The Chemistry and Physics Lab renovation was extremely important as it directly impacts safety and functionality. Lab tables were resurfaced, new hardware (gas jets and faucets) were installed, new chemical-resistant epoxy flooring was laid, and new desks were added, making the lab safer and more conducive to complex experiments. Finally, the Biology Classroom renovation was equally important for modernizing the space, which involved the resurfacing of the demonstration area and countertops with new hardware (gas jets and faucets), installing new tables, replacing the old carpet with
chemical-resistant epoxy flooring, and adding flush- mounted floor outlets, all of which have created a safer, cleaner, and more flexible environment for biological studies and demonstrations. This grant has made a significant difference for our students and their educational experience. We are proud to be good stewards of these crucial funding opportunities.
