assistance getting into the facility and walking out without help once their therapy is rendered. I love seeing the patient happy and independent again. I once had a patient with very low function and fibromyalgia. The patient had a hard time walking to the first couple of times and some sessions were cut short due to flair ups in fibromyalgia symptoms. After three months, she was able to travel again, go on hikes and climb up a 6-foot wall. The patient told me this is the best she has felt in a very long time, and she can now live her life she wants to again.

DON’T LET ARTHRITIS SLOWYOU DOWN
Whether you have arthritis pain or have been suffering for a long time, seeing a physical therapist at ReQuest Physical Therapy can help you return to a more active and pain-free life. Give us a call today:
Are you one of the millions of Americans suffering from arthritis pain? Arthritis most often affects the neck, back, hands, hips and knees. As we get older, the wear and tear on our joints breaks down the cartilage. Instead of a smooth surface, the cartilage becomes worn down in spots, leading to thinned areas and sometimes bone on bone. Arthritis pain is caused by inflammation irritating the surrounding tissues and muscles. In severe cases, nerve endings are exposed on bone. Whether you experience arthritis in your knees, lower back, shoulder, or neck, if your joints don’t move like they used to, this causes further rubbing and increased pain. Relieving Arthritis Pain When a joint becomes arthritic, it loses its normal motion and strength from surrounding muscles. By restoring normal joint movement and improving muscle strength, the amount of excessive pressure on the joint can be relieved. Reducing the pressure on the affected joint decreases inflammation and helps relieve pain by improving mobility.

Use tools that make it easier on your joints such as large handled can openers and large grips on kitchen tools. 4. Carry grocery bags on your forearms, instead of straining the joints in your fingers. 5. Have commonly used items within easy reach to avoid squatting, kneeling or having to reach high overhead. 6. Get up and move often. Don’t sit for more than 30 minutes without getting up for a break. 7. Avoid prolonged kneeling. 8. Have good posture when sitting and standing. 9. Drink plenty of water. 10. Eat nutritious foods. 11. Avoid fried foods, sodas and other items that increase inflammation in your body. 12. I felt my body getting stronger! “I was asked if I would like to do aquatic therapy at ReQuest Physical Therapy. At first I was hesitant. It ended up being the best decision I have ever made. The pool water was warm and soothing. With each session my pain would be less and less. I felt my body getting stronger. So much so that when I was able to progress back to land based programs, I was able to do exercises with less pain. I would highly recommend the aquatic therapy at ReQuest to all looking for relief of their pain.” - J.C.

Aquatic Therapy At REQUEST PHYSICAL THERAPY
Aquatic therapy is giving thousands of patients a new lease on life. With a variety of specially designed pools, ReQuest physical therapists are providing therapeutic, personalized exercise solutions for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, neurological disorders, low back pain and many post-surgery conditions. The benefits of water therapy are many. Buoyancy of water enables a person with an injury to move in ways not possible on land. Swelling is reduced in the arms and legs because of the pressure exerted on your body from the water. The water is a safe place to practice improving your walking and balance without fear of falling and getting hurt. It is much less painful exercising in the water than on land because water reduces or eliminates stresses to joint and soft tissue. The pressure of water increases circulation especially to the hands and feet. With water temperature in the 92 – 95 degree range, the relaxation response of the muscles and reduction in pain allow for greater joint mobility and range of motion, which in turn enhances the body’s ability to heal more quickly. With our aquatic program, we can increase range of motion, mobility, overall conditioning and ability to function in daily living. Where there was once only pain, dependence and dysfunction, there can be less pain, independence and a joyful return to the activities of daily living. It’s a clinically proven, safe and effective approach for treating many conditions that affect human muscles, bones, and joints.
