FAQ’S

Q: How can I take part?

A: All YLUK Colleagues can apply via the application process* to cycle in one of the 10 stages, based on your location. Each stage allows for a maximum of 6 riders, which will be selected via application process to ensure the health and safety of all participants.

Q: Will I still be paid if I take part?

A: Yes, you can take part in one stage of the route, which will take 1 day and and you will be paid as normal for this. This will count as a ‘volunteering day’ under our volunterring policy. Did you know, all employees are eligible for 5 days paid leave under the Volunteering Policy** This is to encourage and ensure all employees have an opportunity to participate in volunteering activities to support local communities and achieve our CSR ambitions.

Q: What equipment will I need to take part?

A: You will need a road worthy bike, your own bike helmet, suitable footwear, and cycling shorts.

All cycling participants will receive a cycle pack containing a branded cycling jersey, water bottle and other useful cycling items.

Q: What charities will be supported?

A: A local charity will be nominated for each site, chosen from the results of the recent charity survey issued to all colleagues. Fundraising from the Tour de Yusen Logistics challenge will be collected via Just Giving and will be shared out across sites local nominated charities, based on the no. of colleagues at each site. Q: Do I need to prove my fitness levels?

A: Health & Safety is our number one priority, and this challenge requires a good level of fitness and experience as the average cycle stage is approx 66 miles. The application process* has been designed to help us gauge your suitability to participate and to help you get the most enjoyment out of this brutal challenge.

Q: Can I take part if I’m not cycling?

A: Fundraising events will be held at each site to welcome David and the other riders as they cross the finish line of each stage. The events will require volunteers to help set up the events and to raise funds for your local nominated charity.

Q: Is there back up for each stage?

A: Andy Cooke Cycling Ltd are extremely experienced in supporting cycle challenges and most recently supported the Tour De France. They have helped us to plan the safest routes for this challenge and will be participating in every stage of the challenge providing medical, mechanical support and importantly motivation.

Q: Do I need insurance to cycle?

A: The challenge is covered under our corporate insurance policy.
