For the Children A braham ' s L ong J ourney G enesis 12:1-9 MEMORY VERSE: “Thou art near, O Lord” (Psa. 119:151). AIM: To teach that God Is near His children at all times. APPROACH: Have you ever traveled into another state where the people lived, and talked in a way that was strange to you? Perhaps you liked to hear them speak, watch some of the queer things that they did, and see the different kinds of houses in which they lived. You might not be so happy of you were told to leave your home, your friends, even some of your relatives and go to live with these people whom you did not know, but that is exactly what God asked a man to do many years ago. LESSON STORY: Abraham and his lovely wife Sarah lived in a tent- home far across the sea. The Bible says that Abraham was “the friend of God” (Jas. 2:23). One day God spoke to Abraham and told him to leave his country and his relatives and go into a land that God would show him. When we travel we know where we are going and take the things that we will need in that place. What a strange trip God planned for Abra ham and Sarah! They left their home not knowing where they were going. It was only because Abraham knew that he could trust God that he was willing to take such a strange jour ney: God told Abraham that if he would obey, he would be very happy and many would talk about his great ness in the years to' come. All over the world many people would be happy because Abraham had obeyed God’s voice. I am sure that the day that Abraham and Sarah and their nephew left home would have been a very unhappy day if they had not known that God never makes a mis take. Whatever He tells us to do is always right. After Abraham and Sarah came to the land into which God had led them, they built an altar just as Noah had done after the flood. They wanted to thank Him for their safe journey and for this land which He had given to them. As they set up their tent- home in the new land, I am sure that they were happy that they had obeyed God’s voice; for they knew that He was always near and that He would care for them wherever they /went. Maybe you boys and girls will move to a new home some day. Perhaps you will miss your playmates and you will be unhappy. Remember this story and thank God for a home.
