2. "And Abram fell on his face" (17:3). In the presence of El Shaddai Abram fell before Him in reverent worship. In eastern fashion he pros trated himself on hands and knees with his forehead touching the ground. Then God "talked with him.” God always talks to men and women who appear in His presence in the proper manner. Those who truly see God show the fact by the reverence they show Him in all their living, service and worship. Reverence for God is a virtue sadly missing in these days. 3. "Thy name shall be Abraham" (17:5). The man who revered God had his name changed. The new name was a reminder of the bless ings God had in store for him. Not only is it true today that God gives those who properly reverence Him a new n ame , He also brings about many other changes in their lives which witness to the power and glory of God. El Shaddai is sufficient for every change that needs to be made in any life. 4. "Canaan, for an everlasting pos session" (Gen. 17:8). As far as God is concerned, the land of Palestine be longs'to the seed of Abraham. Turkey or Britain or some other nation may occupy the land for a time, but ulti mately it belongs- to God’s chosen children. In this land one day God will manifest Himself to the world and from this land will go forth the knowledge of redeeming grace. With this manifestation Israel will have a vital part, and the world will know that Israel and Canaan belong to gether. At the present time statesmen of many lands are seeking a solution to the embarrassing problem of the Jew and Palestine. How can they dis pose of this matter satisfactorily when they do not look into the Word of God? TheKeeperoftheDoors O Lord, Thou Keeper of the doors That stand ajar o’er all the world; Against which Satan’s might is hurled; Hear Thou our prayers for distant shores 1 In spite of strong and bitter foes These doors were opened, through the years, By toil, and prayer, and sweat, and tears, . And blood 1 Oh, do not let them close! Beyond these open doors still wait Lost millions, groping for the light, Souls, wounded, wailing in the night; God grant we may not be too late! “ No man can shut!” To no avail He pours out death by bomb and shell; Not all the raging hosts of hell Against Thy power shall prevail. O blessed Saviour, God’s dear Son, Rise up today; assert Thy will; Keep open wide these doors, until The last tribe, the last soul, is won. —Hetty BruecherU (In Alliance Weekly)
