QUE.: What do you think o f “ The Passion Play” and motion pictures which impersonate Christ? My answer is found in the fact that, to me, it is nothing short of blasphemy for any sinful human being to im personate our sinless Lord. Moreover, the highly commercialized moving picture business, in presenting Bible stories is not furthering the Gospel of our crucified and risen Lord. It is a money-making scheme for entertain ment, and often produced by unbeliev ers. God has given us a beautiful portrait of Himself in His infallible Word. Why trust those who often do not even know Him to attempt to por tray Him and His truth? To me it is a sacrilege. balance sheet; on one side I wrote all the reasons for following Jesus fully; on the other I tried to put down the excuses for not doing His will, but it turned out blank! For if Jesus Christ be God and He died for me, then no sacrifice can be too great to make for Him. Six months after graduation God made it clear that His place of service was to be in Africa under the Sudan Interior Mission. There followed a period of service, of prayerful wait ing; days in which I learned valu able lessons. Now I have the glad tidings that early this summer I am to sail to the land of my adoption. More than anything else on earth, this is what I want to do. I thank God I may go forth to help “ to win for the Lamb that was slain the reward of His suffering”—precious s o u l s for whom He died. Pray for me that I may serve Him faithfully. Miss Hamlett graduated from the Bible Institute of Los Angeles, in June 1942, with Bachelor of Education de gree and life membership in Phi Alpha Chi. She worked as editorial assistant on the staff of our magazine for two and one-half years. She is now enroute to New York anticipating an early sail ing to Jos , Nigeria, British West Africa, where she will be in charge of the Mission s publication. W e wish her God speed and assure her of our prayers. — The Editors. My Enlistment ( Continued from Page 213)
QUE: What do you think o f church suppers and bazaars as a means o f raising money fo r the Lord’s work? While many well-meaning Chris tians work hard getting up these pro grams, yet such methods of “raising money” for the Lord’s work seem to us to be dishonoring to God. God does not need, or want, money from a god less world, and when the self-right eous unsaved give to such causes they often think they have won merit there by, thus deceiving themselves. The Lord’s work should be supported by the gifts and offerings of His own people. Not only is it the duty of the child of God to thus support His work, but it is a source of untold blessing and joy. Read Malachi 3:10. The Lord is speaking of the tribu lation that is to precede His return to the earth, and is giving instruction to the Jewish remnant in regard to life and conduct in that day. Among other things, He exhorts them to faith ful, patient continuance in His Word, which will give rest to their souls, even in an hour such as that. It is a lesson many of God’s people need to learn in this dispensation of the grace of God. QUE.: How could the disciples do greater works than Christ, as He said in John 14 :2 7 ? The disciples were to do greater works than Christ because the Holy Spirit, whom Christ said He would send, was not to be confined by a body to one place. He could so ener gize believers everywhere that the Gospel could spread far more rapidly and more widely than when pro claimed individually by the Lord Himself, and supported by His mighty works. This power was not in the disciples, but in the promised Com forter. The first fulfillment of this promise is seen in Acts 2, in the mighty power that accompanied Pet er’s preaching. Someone has suggested that soul-winning is the greatest work in all the world, greater even than feeding the multitudes and healing the sick . . . James closes his epistle with these significant words: “He which converteth a sinner from the error of his ways shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multi tude of sins.” QUE.: What is the meaning o f Luke 21 :1 9 , “ In your patience possess ye your souls” ?
QUE.: W ill the heathen be lost? W ill there not be, at least, a p ro bation fo r them after death, since they have died in ignorance and superstition? There is nothing in the Word of God to justify even the slightest inference that there will be probation after death for anyone; on the contrary, there is very.positive teaching to the effect that what one does with the Lord Jesus Christ in this life deter mines forever his eternal state. All must stand before Him; for He is the Judge of all the earth, and the Father has committed all judgment unto Him (John 5:22, 25, 27-29). The best answer to your question about the heathen is found in Romans 1:18-32. Read this terrible indictment of sinful man, “without Christ.” It is one of the darkest pictures in the Bible. God is saying here that, because the nations which we call heathen, refuse to have God in their knowledge, and because they deliberately and persistently turned their backs upon His truth, He gave them up. That is why our responsibility is so great, why we are impelled by the grace of God to take the message of salvation to the heathen world. Let no man dare question the justice or the wisdom of God in this matter. He is ever the God of love who died for sinners, and what our finite minds cannot grasp concern ing His ways with men, we do well to leave with Him who “doeth all things well," and whose wisdom, jus tice and mercy are infinite!
