2025 Queensland Exploration Scorecard

CHART 4.4.6 PRE-COMPETITIVE GEOSCIENCE DATA

0

Pre-competitive geoscience data remains a key asset in Queensland’s success, contributing to increased exploration spending and overall industry engagement. Sentiment towards this category continues to be positive, albeit a slight decline from the record height of last year with other jurisdictions also climbing from last year. Respondents acknowledged Queensland’s strong geological foundations and the value of its precompetitive data, noting that open file datasets, regional geoscience information, and collaboration with GSQ have been instrumental in identifying exploration targets and prospective areas. However, they also emphasised the need to maintain and expand these initiatives to continue supporting data-driven exploration across the state.

CHART 4.4.7 LABOUR/SKILLS AVAILABILITY Note: QLD sentiment in 2012-13 and 2017-18 and Other jurisdictions sentiment in 2024-25 were neutral (0)

0

The perception of labour and skills availability is largely unchanged from last year, and continues to be negative. Interestingly, respondents experienced the skill shortage more severely in Queensland compared to other jurisdictions. Industry has raised concerns about training gaps and the suitability of candidates for roles such as geologists and hydrogeologists. The Department of Trade, Employment and Training’s development of a Resource and Critical Minerals Workforce Development Plan is a welcomed initiative that will look to addressing the long-term skills shortages.
