FIGURE 4: EXPLORATION PERMIT MINERAL (EPM) COVERAGE, JUNE 2025 Figure 4 illustrates the distribution of mineral tenure permits and applications across Queensland as of 30 June 2025. The figure effectively demonstrates the broad geographical scope of Queensland’s mineral potential, highlighting both established investment zones in central and northern regions as well as emerging opportunities in north-western Queensland. There were 231 exploration permits for minerals granted within 2024-25. There were a total 2,173 granted EPMs at the end of June 2025, held by more than 600 unique authorised holders (of which several may share the same parent company).

FIGURE 5: AUTHORITY TO PROSPECT (ATP) PETROLEUM COVERAGE, JUNE 2025 Queensland’s petroleum industry is a major gas supplier to eastern Australia and an important export sector. Exploration permits cover large areas in undeveloped regions, while smaller permits are found in established field areas. In 2024-25, four new Authority to Prospect (Petroleum) permits were granted in the Bowen and Surat Basins. There were 103 granted ATPs at the end of June 2025, held by nearly 90 unique authorised holders (our analysis suggests that these authorised holders are associated with 28 companies).
