Mineral exploration expenditure
Queensland’s greenfield share of minerals (including coal) exploration declined for a third consecutive year to just 21% in 2024-25. This represents the lowest proportion observed in 15 years, continuing a downward trend since the 2021 when greenfield activity regularly accounted for around one-third of total exploration. The most recent result marks a sharp six point fall, indicating a shift of exploration expenditure away from new discoveries towards brownfield programs.
