Now, there are always other factors that play into whether or not someone will binge drink. Social media is just a powerful tool for influ - encing the masses, and it is wise to be aware of the effect the content someone consumes has on them. It is also wise to be mindful of the risks involved with some of the actions social media content may influence people to try. According to the CDC, “one in six US adults binge drinks about four times a month.” They also list several health issues related to binge drinking, including alcohol poisoning, the risk of contracting STDs, getting into accidents, forming an addiction, and more. The Community Preventative Task Force suggests that anyone concerned about their drinking habits either talk with a healthcare provider or seek counseling, monitor their drinking following the US dietary guidelines on moderate alcohol consumption (no more than two drinks a day for men and one for women), or work on quitting drinking altogether. Considering a break from following social media pages that influence binge drinking could also be beneficial to those who do not want to be inspired to drink every time they log onto Instagram or TikTok.
