4. Leadership roles in local and national professional organizations and awards of merit add support to the application. 5. Evidence of clinical program building and/or quality improvement initiatives that enhance practice efficiency, compliance with best practices, or patient outcomes are highly valued. 6. Clinical innovation that leads to institutional recognition and/or clinical program growth provides support for promotion to this rank. Evidence of excellence in research/scholarly activity include: Candidates in for promotion to Professor may be engaged in some form of clinical or translational research. Like at the Associate Professor level, evidence of these activities may include publications and a variety of other scholarly activities. However, the expectation for promotion to Professor is that the candidate has an active leadership role in facilitating the research/scholarly activities. This may mean being the driver of the clinical aspects of a basic or translational research study as a co-investigator on major grants with other principal investigators, or an active member in co-operative clinical trials that ultimately lead to publication of the work. Independent funding for research activities is a clear indicator of leadership in scholarly activities but not required for advancement in the Clinical Service Track. Evidence of excellence in teaching include: 1. Documentation of the types of teaching activities in which the faculty member participates is required, including: • Number of hours per week of resident and medical student supervision • Documentation of attendance at teaching conferences • Evidence of formal didactic activities such as lectures at institutional teaching conferences, departmental grand rounds and basic science lectures • Other teaching and consulting lectures throughout the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, the city of Cincinnati, and other institutions across the nation. 2. Evaluations from students, residents and peers are required. Specific methods and objective criteria for evaluation of teaching will be determined by each department. 3. Awards or honors for teaching/mentoring are important indicators of teaching excellence. 4. Committee leadership for new and innovative teaching or evaluation methods, directorship of a medical student clerkship or of a residency program, as well as participation on departmental and college educationcommittees.
