Showcasing the elaborate trim of the home’s façade, the Victorian-inspired color scheme was designed and executed by Fine Custom Painting in San Francisco. By undergoing a restoration project in 2007, the façade has been returned to its original glory as well as refined with additional ornamentation. Woven throughout the façade is an exceptional and detailed use of specific hues and gold gilding that serves to accent the Victorian adornments, egg-and-dart moldings, dentil moldings, garlands, and geometric reliefs. To further highlight the home’s exterior, Fine Custom Painting has implemented a subtle, alternating color variant pattern in order to add movement and texture to the home’s half-cove cedar shake shingles, and to draw the eye up to the finial-capped apex of the house. There, atop the façade at the ridge line, a striking and roaring lion sculptural centerpiece overlooks and accentuates the home’s gravitas. Historically speaking, the roaring lion is the architect’s or the owner’s way of indicating power, prestige, or courage. This leonine theme is then echoed on the front door by an English antique brass lion’s-head door-knocker, which greets visitors as they enter the home.
