LEADERSHIP & SERVICE

“THE BRYSON-IVERY ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND HAS SET AN AMBITIOUS GOAL, TO RAISE $100,000 BY DECEMBER 31, 2025 ... ”

bringing the Fund’s cumulative giving to $46,000 since its inception. In its inaugural year, the committee distrib- uted $12,000 among six students; this year’s seventeen scholars represent a continued expansion of the Fund’s reach and impact. For ASU President Quinton T. Ross, Jr., an alumnus and member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., the fund rep- resents more than philanthropy, it’s a living embodiment of the University’s Focus 2030 Strategic Plan and its Com- mUniversity model, which emphasizes partnerships that uplift students and communities. “When you discuss philanthropy— giving and investing in these students, providing the resources they need to succeed—you are fully aligned with the Strategic Plan Focus 2030,” said Dr. Ross. “This scholarship hits the very heart of who we are as a University and as a community.” Each recipient embodies the prin- ciple of Achievement in Every Field of Human Endeavor. Their majors range from biomedical engineering and political science to criminal justice and dance. And though their academic disciplines differ, their gratitude for the Bryson-Ivery Fund is universal. “I can’t express enough how much this scholarship means to me,” said

freshman Kayla Peltier, a dance major and biology minor. “ASU has so many opportunities for me to explore the careers I want to pursue… It’s a great one-stop shop for everything I need.” HONORING TWO TITANS OF ASU’S ACADEMIC TRADITION The Fund’s namesakes represent the best of ASU’s academic tradition and the Fraternity’s spirit of mentorship and service. Dr. Bryson, an esteemed professor of English and a beloved mentor to gener- ations of ASU students, was known for his commitment to excellence in both scholarship and character. Brother Ivery, longtime chair of the Mathemat- ics Department, instilled discipline and rigor in countless students who would go on to excel in science, education, and public service. “These scholarships represent the legacy of two dedicated educators who poured into The Alabama State Uni- versity,” said Dr. Ross. “Dr. Bryson is one of the reasons I became an English instructor. And Mr. Ivery, he would not let me catch a break, but he taught me mathematics.” BUILDING AN ENDOWMENT The Bryson-Ivery Academic Scholar- ship Fund has set an ambitious goal, to

raise $100,000 by December 31, 2025, creating a sustainable endowment for future generations of scholars. Donations are tax-deductible, and supporters can give through PayPal, Cash App, or Regions Bank. The Fund also hosts annual fundrais- ing events, including golf tournaments and alumni drives, that invite brothers, alumni, and community partners to join in shaping the next generation of ASU scholars. A CALL TO THE BOND In the spirit of achievement, brother- hood, and service, the Bryson-Ivery Academic Scholarship Fund stands as a powerful reminder of what Kappa men have always known: that education remains the surest path to uplift and equality. By investing in ASU students today, the brotherhood ensures that tomorrow’s leaders will emerge not only prepared but also inspired to give back. As one scholar, Joseph Carson, put it, “Thank you for the opportunity that this scholarship has given me. I will never be able to repay you for this gen- erosity. My journey at ASU has been impactful … and I plan to pay it forward by helping other students.” ♦
