Richard Naba’a Muhammad 1961-2025 Editor-in-Chief, The Final Call , Author, Journalist, Media Professional

A ward-winning Editor-in-Chief of The Final Call newspaper Rich- ard (Naba’s) Muhammad (Alpha Iota 1981) entered the Chapter Invisible on June 6, 2025. Brother Muhammad led The Final Call , the official newspaper of the Nation of Islam, journalist, podcaster, author, and longtime since 2009. The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan founded the longstanding newspaper from his South Side Chicago home in 1979. Under his editorship, Brother Muhammad centered the publication on racial injustice, Black empowerment, and advo- cacy for the Nation of Islam. In addition to The Final Call , his work appeared in other newspapers including The Los Angeles Sentinel , The St. Louis American , The Washington Informer , and The New Pittsburgh Courier . He was a dedicated follower of the Most Hon- orable Elijah Muhammad under the leadership and

guidance of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. Born Richard Bryant in Baltimore, MD on August 6, 1961. He graduated from Walbrook Senior High School in 1979. He majored in journalism at Morgan State University. While working in Washington, DC, Brother Muhammad’s life changed when obtained an audio cassette of one of Minister Farrakhan’s speeches which spearheaded his conversion to Islam. He subsequently

joined the Nation of Islam at Washington, DC’s Muham- mad Mosque No. 4. Brother Muhammad started contributing articles to The Final Call and eventu- ally was recruited to Chicago to serve as managing editor before his appointment in 2009 to editor-in-chief of The Final Call . He was also a host of a weekly news and analysis podcast, “Straight Words With Naba’s Richard Muhammad, BJ Murphy, and James G. Muhammad.”
