Santa visits Cornwall Second Street was overwhelmed with smiling adults and children during the 44 th edition of the Santa Claus parade, on November 21. Floats started their trek from the St. Lawrence Secondary School and proceeded west to Augustus Street. This year’s theme was Christmas Dreams. “It sure is nice to see so many people from Cornwall and area standing outside smiling,” pointed out Terry Muir, one of the event organisers. “It is a real community event where people get to visit with others that they may only see at the parade.” Following the parade, organisers and participants made their way to the Cornwall Civic Center, where various winners were announced. The winning float for an Industry was Walmart Logistics, the best retail float was Melody Music, and the best school float was Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School. The best small float was awarded to Mrs. Claus and her family of elves and the best non-for profit service float was won by the Cornwall Wildcats. The best local band was the Sea Cadets and the best visiting band was the Brockville Lions Steel Band. The best dance group was Zumba with Crystal and the best clown award was won by Donald Richardson.

A Christmas parade just wouldn’t be the same if Mr. Christmas himself wouldn’t have participated. Most of the children present all yelled when the man with the red and white costume made his way down Second Street.

Mrs. Claus, Santa’s wife, also took part in the festival. Her float was awarded the “best small float” award.

Students of Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School took part in the parade. Their float received an award for best float in the “Schools” category.
