New Documentary Shares Twin Cities Community Member’s Story
Showcasing the humanity at the heart of a global event, Anahita: A Mothers Journey shares the courageous story of one of our community members. Twin Cities PBS (TPT) will air the hour-long documentary on TPT 2 on June 25 at 6 p.m. with accompanying afternoon programming focused on refugee and immigrant stories.
There is an encore broadcast at 9 p.m. on TPT Life on June 30, and the film is available for streaming on TPT’s website at tpt.org/anahita . TPT has made the film available as part of our commitment to including community voices and experiences in our storytelling. Anahita is an Afghan refugee who evacuated Kabul in August 2021. The documentary details her displacement from Afghanistan and the beginning of her new life with her family in the Twin Cities. Anahita, an Afghan police officer, fled Kabul with her children after being tipped- off that the Taliban was looking for her. Unable to get to the evacuation site, her husband remains in Afghanistan. The Belltower Pictures film was directed by Martin Montgomery, and produced by David E. Powers and Jawad Wahabzada.
