Poker Lesson

Your host will introduce the poker team and explain how the evening will work. We will start with a 20–25-minute poker lesson which we like to call our ‘Beginner to Winner’ session. The session will be a walk though of the ‘poker hand rankings’ and a sample hand of ‘Texas Hold-em.’

For those with a little more poker experience we can have a separate table where players can pick up tips and ask questions of our highly experienced poker team as well as benefiting from a refresher before we start competitive play.

As the cards are dealt and the chips stack high, we are determined to ensure that you experience an evening that not only celebrates the thrill of competition but also embodies our values. We operate with integrity and prioritize responsible gambling, so no money will change hands on the card tables. However, there’s no need to worry. Our considerate and progressive nature means that General Demolition will be donating a generous cash amount to a charity nominated by the outright winner on the night, and prizes will also be awarded to the top performers!

Join us for our ‘Texas Hold’em’ poker tournament Open to all - No previous experience required ‘Beginner to Winner’ Master Class and experienced poker team to guide you throughout the evening Advanced Master Class for more experienced players Play completely ‘Risk Free’ - No money required to buy-in Each guest receives a set amount of chips with a set amount of reloads per guest All guests stay in the competition for the duration of the poker evening Charity donation and prizes for the winners!

This is where those new to the game can learn completely from scratch.

Danny Kerry MBE One of the greatest hockey coaches this country has ever produced, Danny took charge of the England and GB men’s squads in late 2018 after more than a decade of unprecedented success coaching the women’s teams. Having taken charge in 2003, Danny led the teams on a remarkable run of success that saw them win at least one medal every year between 2009-2018. That list includes the incredible Olympic gold won by GB’s women in 2016, which followed on from a similarly incredible triumph for England’s women at the 2015 Euro Hockey Championships. His first games in charge of GB’s men came at the 2018 Seoul Anniversary Internationals - 30 years on from one of Kerry’s favourite hockey moments - before he took England to fourth at the 2018 Men’s Hockey World Cup. Under his stewardship, GB’s men then reached the first ever FIH Hockey Pro League Grand Final weekend in 2019 and made the quarter-finals in Tokyo in 2021. The Walbrook is the City’s only family- run private members’ club. The Walbrook opened in 2000 in a Queen Anne-style townhouse built as the family offices of prominent property developers Rudolph Palumbo, who had a hand in designing the building, and his son Lord Peter Palumbo. The third generation of the Palumbo family is now running the show. Enviably located in the heart of the bustling Square Mile, the Club stands directly next door to the Mansion House, NM Rothschild, Bloomberg’s European Headquarters and the Bank of England. The interiors are by the late, great Mark Birley of the original Mark’s Club, Harry’s Bar and of course Annabel’s, and the kitchens were run by the legendary chef Albert Roux of Le Gavroche.

The idea was to introduce beautiful rooms and delicious food to a part of London, the Square Mile, traditionally considered to be starved of both. There is the Bar, Dining Room and two private rooms.Being family-run, each painting, picture and stick of furniture has a story behind it. When taken together these eclectic pieces, lovingly chosen, inform the Club’s warm atmosphere. The architecture of the space lends itself to meeting fellow Members since the Club’s style, ethos and proportions are those of a private townhouse. The vaunted guest speaker series, rolling now across the decades, must also be seen to be believed. The Walbrook is, above all, discreet, elegant and welcoming, underpinned by attentive service and stays true to the highest standards of fine dining.

There is simply nowhere like it.
