So shall be the people that shall belong to you; there will be too many to count. They shall be a great people; kings shall be among them.” During this time also, - - - changed - - - - -’s name to - - - - - - ", “ for a fa ther of nations have I made thee,” He said. After a while, just a s ----- had promised, the son came. A dear little baby was sent to - . . . . . . and - - - - - . They were both so pleased and happy. They named the baby boy - - - - - - Now after - - - - - was born, - - - asked - t o do a very hard thing. - - - wanted - - - - - - - to be willing to obey Him in everything. Would he be willing to lose his only son, - - - - - , i f - - - asked him? And - - - - - - - was willing and obeyed Him even in this; but at the right moment, He gave him back his only son. - - - was so pleased with this obedience that He said, “ Now I will give you more than you can ever imagine. Your family shall be so great that they shall be the head o f other people and, better than all, they shall be the cause of happiness to every body in the world.” The son, soon grew up. Now - - - - - - - was growing very old. He knew he could not live much longer, so he made plans to choose a wife for - - - - - from among his own people. A True Story of What Happened to a Man B y C. H. s this is a true story, boys and girls, I will not tell you the names o f the people in it. You know, those who write books often do not tell who the peo ple are they are writing about, but give them untrue names. I will not do that, as this story is found in God’s Word, the Bi ble. You can read this story and then fill in the names. You will see that I have left spaces for them, a dash for each letter. Long, long ago the - - - of glory looked about this world on all men, and chose one through whom He was to bring blessing to the whole world. This man was . . . . . . -r called - - - - - at that time. - - - - - lived in the beautiful city o f - - o f the - - - - - - - - i n the land o f - - - - - ................(Acts 7 :2). T h ere--------appeared unto him andj said, “ I want you to leave this land and all your friends and relatives and come into a land that I will show you. Although I want you to leave your father’s home and land, I promise to make you a great nation,” - - - said. “ I will bless you and will give you a great name, so that, as long as the world lasts, people will talk about you. Furthermore, I will give great good to every one who treats you well.” It must have seemed hard for - - - - - to leave his beautiful home and all his friends and start out on a long journey to a strange land, but had not - - - called him to go, and had not - - - promised him even greater things? So - - - - - departed, leaving behind many sorrowing ones. . . . . .’s father, - - - - -, went with him, and his wife, - - - - -, and his brother’s son, - - -. They first came to - - - - -, where they stayed for a while, until after the death of - - - - -, - - - - -’s father. Then they journeyed on from - - - - - into the land that - - - had promised, the land o f - - - - - -. As - - - - - entered the land o f promise, the - - - - appeared unto him and said, “Unto your children will I give this land.” What a welcome this must have been to - - - - - ! He erected an altar there and worshiped the - - - who had called him and led him forth. Soon after that, he pitched his tent at - - - - - -, which means “ the house of God.” Many things happened after he had en tered thé promised' land. At one time, a famine came, and instead o f trusting the - - - -, who had brought him hither, he went down into - - - - - . While there, he did things that displeased - - -, and no blessing came until he had gone back into the land, to the very city of - - - - - -. Then there was - - a, his brother’s son, who was as rich in cattle and flocks as was he. It soon could be seen that the land was not large enough for - - - - - and - - -, with their many flocks and herds and tents. Indeed, there was strife among the herdsmen. So - - - - - separated him self from - - -. - - - chose to dwell in the plain o f the - - - - - - , in which were the

Christ and the Children Jesus blessed the little children In the years so long ago, And He* loved them all, I’m certain, For the Bible tells me so. And He called them, when disciples Would have sent them all away, Speaking then in tones so loving As He gently bade them stay. So the children always followed Just to hear Him speak or pray, With their willing hands they scattered Fragrant flowers in His way. So we come today to praise Him, And we bring sweet flowers, too. Hearts and lives we pledge to Jesus, W e will serve in all we do. Still His Spirit hovers o’er us, W e can feel His presence near. For the Christ who blessed the children Holds them ever close and dear. —V aleria R. L ehman . But during the many experiences in the new land th e -------, who had led - - - - - forth, appeared to him again and again repeating the promises made to him at the time he was called to leave his homeland. Do you think that - - - - - ever thought o f the beautiful palaces in the city of - -, that he had exchanged for a tent, or felt a bit lonely in this new land far away from friends and relatives ? Perhaps he did, but I am sure they were all forgotten when the - - - - appeared unto him. One day when he may have felt a bit lonely, standing there looking out over this new place, seeing no one he knew, and per haps feeling a bit sad that he had not even a house to live in, the - - - - came to him and said, “ Cast your eye over the country round about, turn your head right around and look as far as you can see. I am going to make you a present of all that you can see, and when you die, I will give it to your son.” But - - - - - had no son. However, when wicked cities o f - - - - - and - - - - - - - - , w h ile..............chose to dwell in the prom ised land of - - - - - -.
