you might have felt His arms about you as you looked up into His loving face. It would indeed have been wonderful, but today He is just as near to you. He is close by your side, loving you and caring for you. You can talk to Him every day in prayer and hear Him talk to you as you read His Book, the Bible. His gentle voice is saying today, as to the little ones in the long ago, “ Suffer the lit tle children to come unto me.” If you come, He will receive you and make you His child forever. Children’s Day When o f old, our Lord and Master To Moriah’s temple came— Drove away the proud and selfish, Those who reverenced not His name; He, the gentle, loving Saviour, Listened to the children’s praise; Sweeter far their glad hosannas Than the priests and scribes could raise. So, today, from earthly temples, Children’s songs, like incense, rise; Still the loving Saviour hears them From His throne above the skies. Still He says, with blessings tender, “ Suffer them to come to Me, For o f such My heavenly kingdom, And lor such its joys shall be.” —M. L. B. O n the broad steps o f the First Church, a slender, black-gowned woman paused irresolute. It was as though the strong pur pose that had sent her with rapid steps to the threshold o f the building had failed. But there was only a moment o f wavering, only a tense pressure of the soft package she carried, and the church doors swung behind her. A group o f busy, energetic women in the Sunday-school room paused in their work to greet the newcomer. A capable, mother ly looking woman raised her flushed face from the box she was packing and took the quietly offered package, at the same time pressing the slender hand that gave it, with a warmly sympathetic touch. The younger woman turned almost hurriedly away to join a group of women putting the finishing touches on some blue aprons. “ Dear me,” exclaimed the woman at the box, “nearly everything is packed, and there are only two children’s coats, and those are not very good.” The answer to Miss Blake’s letter said one of their great est needs this year, as every year, was children’s winter coats. “ Children’s coats!” exclaimed a woman, energetically hemming towels. “ I thought Arizona was always warm.” “ Not as far north as Ganado; and be sides that, it is nearly 7,000 feet high, you know,” answered the busy packer as she untied the package last received. As she shook out the folds o f the little gar ment it contained, she did so with a quick intake o f breath that caught the attention o f the women nearest her, and a sympa thetic silence fell on the group while the fingers o f the little woman in black trem bled at their work. It was a little girl’s coat; in color, a pretty green, soft and warm and trimmed with a little collar o f

Ruth. pearly-gray fur—a coat to delight the heart of any child—and it was scarcely worn. * * * * * * Children and coats! A room full of one and a table full of the other, and a woman whose eyes grew anxious as she fitted the shabby garments on one child after an other! In the far corner o f the room sat Nadabah, just one little, brown-eyed Na vajo girl to every one else, but to herself a whole tiny world o f childish longing and loneliness in the strange white man’s school to which she had come so recently. Her keen eyes had singled out the one coat her heart desired, a pretty, soft green, with a collar o f gray fur. Wistfully her gaze followed as it was tried on one child after another. “What a pity,” said the matron as the last child wiggled out o f the little coat. “ It is too small for any o f you and the very nicest one we have.” “ There is Nadabah,” cried Molly, danc ing like a sprite to the corner where the newcomer sat, and pulling her to the table. The pleasant warmth of the little coat enriched the child, the soft fur touched the brown cheeks like a caress. Nadabah looked up into the matron’s face with the first smile that had lighted the lovely eyes since she had left her mother in the distant hogan. “ It just fits,” cried the girls circling around her. The "matron answered that first shy smile with an impulsive hug. The affection and interest of her new friends sent warmth into Nadabah’s cold little heart, and a bit of the love in the far-away mother heart that had parted with a treasure for the need o f another, came to bless the wearer of the little green coat.—G anado B ulletin .
The Gospel of John Many have written for the little red book, the Gospel o f John, and are now reading it through. W e trust that you will all come to know the Lord Jesus as your own Saviour as you read this gospel. Have you signed your name on the dotted line near the front of the book, saying that you have received God’s "Gift," the Lord Jesus, as your Saviour and now have everlasting life? This month’s memory verses are: 1. John 1:12. 3. John 3:16. 2. John 1 :29. 4. John 3 :36. Jesus and the Little Children June is the month for Children’s Day. I am so glad that a day has been especially set aside as your day. God’s Word tells of a day when the children were especially remembered in the long ago. Now, when the Lord Jesus was here upon earth, you will remember that He went about doing good, teaching the peo ple, and healing their sick. He made blind eyes to see and deaf ears to hear. O f course, crowds gathered about Him, peo ple from all ranks o f life, thè rich, the poor. Many came to hear His gracious words, and others to have Him heal their sick. With all these people thronging Him, perhaps you have wondered if He ever had time for little children. Yes, Jesus loved the little children as He walked this earth in the long ago. One day, after He had been teaching and answering many questions, some mothers with their little children drew near. They seemed to realize that the Lord Jesus was soon to leave their part o f the country, and before He left, they wanted Him to touch their little ones and bless them. But when the disciples, or friends, of Jesus saw them, they were displeased and tried to keep the mothers and children from coming to Him. But Jesus saw the mothers and their lit tle ones. He knew the hearts of the mothers, and was displeased with the dis ciples for trying to send them away. “ Suffer the little children to come unto me,” He said, “and forbid them not, for o f such is the kingdom o f heaven.” Then He not only touched the little chil dren, but took them up into His arms and blessed them, as a tender, loving Father. With what joy these mothers must have returned to their homes ! All the rest of their lives, I’m sure they remembered this happy day. As the children grew older, don’t you think the mothers often told them o f the day that, the Lord Jesus held them in His arms and blessed them? As you read this story, boys and girls, perhaps some of you have been wishing that you might have lived in the days when the Lord Jesus was here upon earth; that
