A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 8

We now have one more week left of this term. Year 8 students have been engaging well in their lessons and also enjoying various activities outside of school. It has been great to see so many of them throwing themselves into the life of the school, by getting involved in many different clubs and events. Congratulations to 8SPI for getting the most epraise points this week. 8FWD were second and 8STH third. Well done! Well done to the Year 7/8 rounders team who played against Teddington earlier this week. Although we didn’t win, the students played an excellent game and showed great sportsmanship. Congratulations to Savannah in 8FBH for passing her Grade 1 Singing exam! During recent Science lessons, some of our Year 8 students were asked to make DNA models using any household items - some used candy, others used buttons and sticks and made some very creative displays of the double helix. The winners in 8FWO were Alex A and Eva M with their lovely free standing display and explanation key. Click here to see an image of their creation. Well done to all who took part! There are many different clubs for students to join that are going on in school. A new book club has started on a Thursday after school looking specifically at the books that have been voted to receive the Carnegie book award. If students are interested in joining they should let their English teacher know. A full list of the extra curricular activities for Year 8 can be viewed here. All students have had a reminder this week from their Head Of Year about the school uniform policy. It is to be noted that fake eyelashes and nails are not permitted in school. Thank you in advance for your support with this. A reminder that our Year 8 Parents’ Evening is taking place next week on Wednesday 24 May.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan I would like to recommend this book as it's the start of an extraordinary journey and grips you from the beginning. It is about a normal boy who finds out he is the son of the Greek god Poseidon. He is then brought to a camp for all the children of Greek gods. After trying to settle in, he is selected to go on a quest and that's when the adventure begins… ~Recommended by Eva A, Year 7 student Please contact us with any queries or problems you may have.
