ness, which someone has been sending me. I cannot waste my time in such an unprofitable exercise any longer. He would indeed be a poorly equipped min ister who needed such productions, either for his instruction or his inspi ration. There is much in this magazine that leaves me with a feeling of shame and disgust. The ignorance of elemen tary facts of theological knowledge constantly displayed is simply amusing. The climax was reached with the pub lication of Jonathan Edward’s blas phemous sermon oh ‘Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God.’ A magazine that can publish things like that in this twentieth century is quite evidently be yond hope. How any intelligent man can tolerate it passes my comprehen sion. If it is the sort of thing on which you feed your mind and heart, I am profoundly sorry for you. If any fur ther copies reach me, I shall simply put them into the fire unread.” m a l TAFFY SERMONS Robert Hall says: “ If I were on trial for my life, and my advocate should amuse the jury with his tropes and fig ures, burying his arguments beneath-a profusion of flowers of rhetoric, I would say to him, “ Man, put yourself in my place, speak in view of the gallows, and you will tell your story plainly and earnestly.” Who knows God less than what is in the Bible will not understand Him. Who knows God more than what is in the Bible will misunderstand Him.

to offend I will eat no flesh, while the world standeth.” (1 Cor. 8:13.) Mag nificent! Could not Christians rightly say in the light of this principle, or better ought they not to say, if contrib uting to these institutions causes them to continue feeling secure and safe in their unscriptural teaching, and thus leading astray our young men and women for whom Christ died, I will give them no further gifts, no, not so long as the world standeth, or at any rate as long as they continue to teach the rationalistic philosophies and the New Theology. When they dismiss all such teachers and abandon their text books and reference books then I shall give them a hearty support. We make our appeal to the sane men and women of the churches, and to the official boards in all our institutions. It is within the power of the churches to solve this problem. Shall we do it? m. m BELIEVES IN THE HELL BEAUTIFUL We have heretofore published some of the nice things said about this maga zine. We have no wish, however, to deceive our subscribers into thinking that all the letters we get are of the same encouraging nature. Were that the case, it would be exceedingly bad for us. The following from a prom inent minister will show what helps to keep us humble, and incidentally will reveal the attitude of some of our min isters toward the plain teachings of Scripture which they are paid to de fend: “ I must ask you to oblige me by can celing the order for The King’s Busi

ADlVICE TO THE LAITY The duck layeth an egg, and silently waddleth away, whereas the hen doth mightily cackle. Five thousand hen’s eggs are sold for fifty ducks’. Verily, it payeth the “ laity” to advertise. Try The King’s Business.
