158 increases. The prayer life of Jesus did not consist simply of prayer, it con sisted in listening to prayer and answer ing prayer. Much of the life of a father and mother is taken up in lis tening to requests from the children, and the Lord Jesus delighted in answer ing prayer. A mother comes with her manacled daughter and the daughter is healed before she gets home. A cen turion comes for his servant, and the servant is healed; a father comes for his child, and the child is healed. Was there a prayer ever uttered that Jesus did not answer? Altogether lovely in His disposition to answer prayer,- as well as in the example of prayer life that He has set. The fact is He is here >tonight to answer your prayer, “ God be merciful to me a sinner;” to answer your prayer as you pray for the hoy across the sea, to answer your prayer as you pray for the one that is lost to home, lost to virtue, and to everything that is good. I learned last week the telephone number of his Majesty, King George. It is “ No. 4832 Victoria.” But you need not go and call him up. You will not talk to King George by saying through the telephone, “ I want to speak to Victoria 4832.” Somebody would ask who you are, and when you tell him, King George will not hear about it at all. But friends, we can reach the King of kings. There is a wireless telegram that touches Him, and He is waiting and ready just now to answer the prayer. Altogether lovely in His victories. Victories over testings, over Satan, over the things of this world, over spiritual pride, over the promptings of physical desire. He was triumphant over Satan and all the temptations that came with a calm strength that was beautiful. And is it not true that He is altogether love ly in the victory gained in us, and for us and through us? Have some of you been living an up-and-down life, vic-

These lusts of mine is there any power that can master them? “ Thanks be to God who giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” “ The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord,” and the victory through Christ ^s His gift, and if you will accept eternal life in Christ, you can accept victory in Christ. He purposes still to be vic torious, and He is altogether lovely in the victories that He gains. Turn that temper over to Him and He will keep it. I have tried it and know it. Turn those evil tendencies over to Him, and He will restrain them. Turn over the bur dens even that crush, and He will put His shoulder underneath and lift, or He will give you the strength that will make the burden that has been heavy, very much lighter. The Lord Jesus de lights to be victorious in His people as He was victorious upon earth. Altogether lovely in His patient en durance. He had to endure the Apos tle Peter— that impulsive, spasmodic man, the man who said the wrong thing at the wrong time, the man who did not know the virtue of silence, and will by-and-by deny the Master. The Lord Jesus just looked at him, and that look sent him into the dark to weep. Then He had to endure Judas. It is almost inexplicable, but we accept the fact that the Lord Jesus endured Judas among the twelve. They were so stupid, so dull of learning. They had such lit tle vision. Their horizon was so nar row. And yet He was so patient, so loving and kind, beautiful in His patient endurance. Again, altogether lovely in His ideals. If any man would be great among you,-r—let him lead an army, and handle a million men? If any man
