man Saul their king, but soon King Saul wanted to have his own way and would not do as God \yanted him to do, and you know when we disobey God and go our own way we are sure to get into trouble and do wrong things, and wrong thoughts get into these minds of ours, and then it is so easy for us to listen to Satan that Wicked person who always tries to get us to be naughty and havr our own way. The two men in the pic ture standing near to the sleeping king are David and pne of his friends, whc had been hiding in a cave because Saul had let angry feelings stay in his heart and he was trying to find David so he could kill him, and yet David had always been kind and good to Saul, who was now down in the wilderness with his army trying to find David, and once be fore David had been near to King Saul and could have killed him, but David spared Saul’s life and would not hurt him, for David’s heart was filled with God’s love and he wanted to do God’s will, and even though King Saul was wicked and was not a good king, .David said he would let God remove him. Now David had heard from some other peo ple that King Saul and his army were near by hunting for' him to kill him, so when it was night and King Saul and his army were sleeping, David and his friend came out of their hiding place and went over to where King Saul lay sleeping. God was with David and so He made Saul and all hjs soldiers sleep very soundly so they would not hear David. The man who was with David wanted to kill Saul, but David would not let him do so, but they took King Saul’s spear and bottle of water and slipped away quietly, and eveh though King Saul was trying to kill David, David would not hurt 'Saul, and he said that when God wanted Saul not to be king any longer, He would remove him, but that he (David) would not lay his hands on the one whom God had appointed king.

Then David and his friend went and stood on a hill a distance away from King Saul and his army and called to them, and showed them the spear and bottle of water, and asked the soldiers why they had not kept better watch over their king. David asked the king if he (David) had done anything wrong, and if he had he was willing to ask for giveness, but if Saul was just follow ing David and trying to kill him be cause some wicked men had told him to do so, David prayed the Lord to pun ish those men, and asked King Saul not to kill him. When King Saul saw that David and his friend had been right up by his side and could have killed him, he knew that David had no angry feel ing of hatred in his heart, and King Saul told David that he (the king) had done wrong. Then Saul spoke kindly to David and did not try to harm him, and David went away and King Saul went to his own home. Now when people treat us badly and some times hurt us, some times we feel like hurting them, but our story tells us the right way to do is the way Jesus did. Jesus loved every body even those who tried to kill him. Our verse to learn tells us that Jesus did not have His own way. We know He always did the way God, His heaven ly Father, wanted Him to do. (Teach memory verse.) Make application of lesson to every day life of the children.
