God at whose command they serve. FRIDAY , Feb. 27. Ps. 116:1-8. Things W rought By Prayer. “ More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of.'” Jacob prays at Peniel and his angry brother becomes good-natured and fraternal. Moses prays and Israel is saved from the infliction of Divine vengeance for her sins. Hannah prays and a barren wife becomes the joyful mother of chil dren. Elijah prays and the heavens are closed and opened at his word. Daniel prays and lions’ mouths are shut. Nehemiah prays and by royal favor the walls of Jerusalem arise. Hezekiah prays and the angel of the Lord slays 185,000 Assyrians in a sin gle night. Jesus prays with strong cry ing and tears unto Him that was able to save Him from death and an angel upholds Him until He is able to reach the cross. The Apostles pray and the barriers of the Roman Empire fall be fore the Gospel. SATURDAY, Feb. 28. Isaiah 54 :11-17. Touch Not Mine Anointed. God watches over and cares for His own. No wicked person can lift his hand or wag his tongue against the weakest child of God with impunity. Herod had short shrift after he laid his hands on the church of God. He died a premature, miserable and loathsome death. Any one who speaks against a servant of the Lord or seeks to do him harm will surely suffer for it either in physical health or material prosperity or both. There are no exceptions to this law. This suggests a reason why the servant of God, while being solicitous about his character and conscience, can afford to be careless about his reputa tion.

SUNDAY, Feb. 29. 1 Pet. 2 :1 -3 . Peter W rites About Christian Living. The first chapter of first Peter deals with birth. The second chapter is con cerned with growth. On this account the ‘‘therefore” of 2:1, refers back to 1:23. There is a stirring call to pro gress in the Christian life. It starts with the need, “ that ye may grow.” The means, are stated, “ the sincere milk of the Word.” The end is kept in view, “ salvation.” As a child grows in strength, capacity and experience, so in the Christian life growth is the nat+ ural and necessary result of using the proper means. Milk is a perfect food for children containing all the elements necessary for building up the body. Food should be plain, suitable and nutritious. Is. 55:1. The Word of God strengthens, sustains and satisfies. Its promises console, its counsels guide, its warnings admonish and protect. DID JESUS LAUGH? “ I once had the somewhat startling question put to me by an excellent lady in my congregation, “ Does the Bible say. that the Saviour ever laughed?” Suppose it does not, does that make it a sin for you or me to laugh? And has He not given His people the joyous as surance, “ Blessed are ye that w'eep now, for ye shall laugh” ? (Luke VI: 21.)' That was a conclusive, as well as “ a very pretty reply,” which was made by a little girl, to the statement that our Saviour was never seen to smile. “ Didn’t He say, ‘Suffer little children to come unto Me’ ? and they would not have come unless He had smiled.”— Gerrit Huyser.
