Poskanzer Skott Architects The Embankment Jersey City, NJ

Adaptive Reuse Renovation for McHugh Engineering Associates, Inc. - Ambler, PA

Size: 6,800 s/f Utilizing an existing warehouse shell, the design for McHugh Engineering As- sociates new home turns a blighted neighborhood eyesore into an innovative new office space. The celebration of the industrial space is evident in the exposed metal-truss-supported timber wood ceiling, exposed concrete floors and recycled barn style sliding door. The open layout within the existing warehouse shell and new board room addition are interconnected by a vibrantly colored feature wall that welcomes employees and visitors through the new entry and guides them throughout the interior. Creative re-use of existing materials evokes the historic nature of this industrial warehouse. – Arcus Design Group-Architects, Inc. The building revitalization included an energy analysis, selected cost effec- tive systems, utilized all LED lighting fixtures, low flow plumbing fixtures, high efficiency sealed combustion split systems, variable refrigerant flow system for private offices, building automation system, provided the ability for natural ven- tilation, ample daylighting, and connectivity to their surrounding community. McHugh Engineering Associates is currently pursuing LEED Certification. – McHugh Engineering

Size: 163 Units Poskanzer Skott Architects’ design for the LeFrak Organization’s Embank- ment enhances the architectural diversity that defines Jersey City’s Hamilton Park neighborhood. Situated on an old railroad embankment that fronts 10th Street, the 163-unit, seven-story multifamily development – with its distinctive brick exterior and oversized windows – projects the look of a retrofit of a his- toric manufacturing facility. Yet the building is new construction, featuring a full complement of modern conveniences and lifestyle amenities. Upon completion, residents will enjoy spacious, naturally lit apartments and pedestrian access to mass transit, dining and shopping. “I was thrilled to have an opportunity to design something completely different in Jersey City for our long-time client, the LeFrak Organization. The Embank- ment – in contrast to the sleek apartment and office towers we’ve done for them at Newport – incorporates older architectural design elements, preserves a bit of local history, captures the eclectic spirit of this transitional neighborhood, and was an exciting design challenge. Seeing it built now after years on the drawing board is especially rewarding.”– Barry Poskanzer, AIA
