Sean
All over the world you played your game Respect and loyalty followed your name Strong and fair with a healthy bite Friends with all as day turned to night Most at home in a good debate Regardless of topic you’d stay to checkmate Knowledge and detail of all far and wide So glad that you were on our side You’d say “Riddles and silence can win any war Loose lips sink ships, carry that far” And sure enough, never in doubt Those battles were won, without even a shout Always around when one needed to chat Never too busy with this or with that Great fun on a run, or the craic with a wine Memories to take to the finish line
With dry humoured charm And the glint in your smile Taken too early While still in your prime
A gentleman, A leader, A colleague, our friend Rest well Sean, the best to the end.

Bridgin Grant Osgood
AN UPDATE ON OLLIE
Thank you from the Grant and Farrell Families.
Thank you to everyone who donated, shared, sent messages and prayers to my nephew Ollie who had spinal surgery on the 3rd Jan. More than £45,000 was raised in 45 hours in December to allow Ollie to have specialist spinal surgery under Dr. Ahmet Alanay in Turkey for Scoliosis. Ollies curvature was at 87 degrees at the start of December and Dr. Alanay hoped he could achieve a 40 degree curve with the surgery but thankfully now it is at 19 degrees. Ollie, with his mummy and Daddy, returned home Day 5 post op and he is improving each week and is looking forward to getting back to school at the start of March, hopefully. Ollie has also started his new role as assistant coach for his U11 GAA football and hurling teams and hopes to return to playing in the summer but this may not happen until he has finished all his surgeries/treatment and is fully grown.

five secrets to happiness
happy new you year! We need to learn, and be comfortable to love ourselves exactly how are are now - not when we work harder or when we acquire wants. Are you subconsciously withholding self-love until you have achieved something or checked something of your list? Identify your list, become of aware of it and consciously choose you are worthy of love as you are. Offer love to yourself // Pay attention to the words you use as you speak with yourself // Ask yourself ‘What do i need today?’ // Forgive yourself
Respond with Kindness Happiness Skill #1
Everyday, we will have to deal with stressful moments. You can beat yourself up, which makes the stress bigger. Or you can be kind to yourself, which helps to reduce it. Kindness is a choice that has a huge impact on your health, relationships, productivity, and well-being. When you’re stressed and you treat yourself with kindness, it can help to calm this stress response down. Breathe Deeply // Move, release stress energy // Label the feeling // Share how you are feeling // Face challenges with others // It will take time to unlearn old habits and learn new ones, and self-compassion is essential on the journey. Self-compassion has been associated with greater life satisfaction, emotional intelligence, social connectedness, happiness, and optimism, and less depression, perfectionism, and anxiety. We can’t eliminate stress from our lives. But we can treat ourselves with kindness when we experience it, and in the process, make it easier to cope with.

Notice The Good Happiness Skill #3
At every moment of your day, you’re paying attention to something. Your attention is like a flashlight. At a background level, your brain shifts into default mode to contantly scan for possible threats. We need to learn how to take control of our flashlight and point it at the good in our lives. ‘Noticing the good’ and you also might call it gratitude, savoring, or celebrating. Gratitude isn’t toxic positivity. It doesn’t ask us to deny what is real and challenging our lives: it means consciously choosing to look around and notice the positive things that are also occurring in your world. It’s also especially useful in hard times. Research has shown that practicing gratitude in hard times is not only good for you, it can even be helpful for overcoming your challenges. Go outside and experience nature // Send a gratitude note, email or message // Share about what you are grateful for // Take pause. take a mental picture of your postive monents in the day. said, “The root of joy is gratefulness. It is not joy that makes us grateful; it is gratitude that makes us joyful.”

Build a Bridge Happiness Skill #5
Hope and Act Happiness Skill #4
Our need for connection is so critical: feeling disconnected impacts not only our mental health, but our physical health, too. We need each other, and we need to help each other. Here are some ways to build bridges between you and other people, and you and the world around you. Check in with a family member, a friend, someone who might need you right now // When you see something that makes you think of someone, share it. // Offer your help to someone else // Deepen your existing relationships.
None of us know what the future holds. But we all have a deep psychological need to have a positive image of our own future. Doing so helps our happiness, health, and resilience. Here’s how to dream up your own future — and take action to make it a reality. Choose an area to focus on, you cant do it all at once // Break down your vision into goals // Aim for consistant small steps // Ask for help // Check in with yourself, you are allowed to change your mind.

“And I urge you to notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at this point, ‘ If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is’.”
It is so easy for us to notice when we are unhappy. And even easier to express those feelings out loud. How many conversations do you have in a day that consists largely of you and a friend, co-worker or family member airing out your respective grievances? Now think about how many conversations that you have in a day about your happiness. We live in a world where the bad is easier to find and even easier to talk about than the good. Let’s try to notice when you are happy, especially for the little things.
Notice when you are happy Journal about it Tell a friend Tell yourself Feel present in your happiness Slow down and feel it Breathe it in Take a snapshot in your mind Take an actual snapshot Print it and hang it up proudly Thank the people around you Thank yourself Enjoy your happiness

We have had requests for more team profiles so we asked a few of the Ardmac finance team to tell us a little about themselves. We hope this will become a regular feature so keep an eye on your inbox for when we are profilling your department. Who are you? What do you do? What do you like?
“I’m Daniel the Group Financial Controller at Ardmac. I have been working in Ardmac for 4 years but its seem longer! :) In Ardmac I work on everything financial from monthly accounts, commercial reports, taxation, audits etc. I also love a good excel spreadsheet!! Personally, I’m a Kerry man, living in Kildare with my wife and baby daughter Pippa. In my spare time, I still play a little bit of GAA and try to go to games whenever I can. I also enjoy doing DIY jobs and I’m currently doing some wood paneling work around house.” “I’m Declan, Senior Financial Accountant with Ardmac. I joined Ardmac only 3 months ago. Everyone is very friendly and helpful …..so far! :) I’m the entity accountant for Ardmac Limited. I prepare the monthly accounts, commercial reports, tax, and audits etc. I would class myself as a “Country Dub”. I grew up surrounded by fields in North County Dublin. I play GAA for my local team in Lusk. The training and games help with keeping the extra few pounds off the waist but my days competing at a relatively high level are long gone. I just love the craic and banter both on and off the field. I’m getting married in July, so weekends are ruined (I mean spent) looking at stuff for the wedding :) “

This has been a project like no-other and without your dedication and experience we simply would not be in a position to welcome students this coming academic year. Through each setback, the collaborative nature has enabled us to adapt and remain nimble and I would say sets the benchmark for projects going forward.”

At Ardmac, our SkyBlue Programme allows us to ethically and responsibly manage all aspects of our operations. Throughout 2022, we ran several initiatives which allowed us to encourage well-being amongst our team, give back to our community and work in sustainable ways. As we enter into 2023, our SkyBlue programme will continue to support our teams mental and physical health, promote diversity and inclusion throughout our business and beyond, protect our environment and give back to our nominated charities.
Workplace Wellbeing
Cycle for Hope 2022 2022 was our fifth year partnering with Pieta House. With an increasing number of employees in the construction industry suffering from mental health issues, Ardmac is proud to support Pieta House in delivering their life-saving mental health and suicide prevention services. Our second annual Cycle for Hope fundraiser took place on October 9th and saw us raise €68,500 for Pieta House. Cycle for Hope is something tangible Ardmac do to support mental health, raise awareness of the services available and raise money to fund the services. For 2023, we are looking to expand our Skyblue committee. This committee looks at volunteering and charity opportunities, best practise for sustainability and how we can improve our diversity, inclusion and equality efforts. We are looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives. The spaces to join the team are limited, committee meetings are bi-monthly. If you are interested please get in touch before 3rd of March.
We encouraged well-being by inviting a range of speakers to our office to support our message around mental well-being and stress management. In 2022, 22 members of our team became certified mental health first aiders, bringing the total number of people trained to 39. Mental health first aiders support their colleagues in seeking professional support with mental health challenges.

Orchards in the Community 2022
Ardmac were delighted to be involved in Host In Ireland’s Orchards in the Community initiative in 2022, which was widely successful with over 2,700 mixed orchards planted across Ireland. We took 20 orchards, which we disturbed around community gardens, schools and our homes. We are committed to supporting our pollinators year-round. In May of 2022, our SkyBlue committee came together to create a pollinator- friendly garden on the roof of our Swords office. The team consulted with a local garden centre and Host in Ireland to ensure we selected the most beneficial food sources for our pollinators.
Women in Construction 2022 Ardmac is aware that the Irish construction industry needs to employ more women if it is to have a sustainable future and throughout 2022 we worked to #BreaktheBias. Our Managing Director for Offsite Manufacturing and Engineering Michael Quinn and Senior Quantity Surveyor Catherine Greene visited local secondary schools to deliver highly insightful presentations which discussed the benefits and career opportunities available for women in construction. Our school visits aim to promote construction and engineering to young people, particularly young women. Through our presentations, we want to showcase what a varied career construction can offer and highlight that our roles are available to everyone.

Kigali site visit Jan 2023
David McGrath and John Carey made their first visit to the new BioNTech site in Kigali, in readiness for delivery of our newly constructed modules, planned in March 2023. These modules will be announced to a global stage and noted as the first of their kind into the African continent, marking a significant investment for our client and the Rwandan Government. This visit was set as an initial fact-finding exercise and included oversight with several logistic companies. Their support will help the transfer of all modules and materials through customs and border posts, transportation through both the airport and seaports, travel across the eastern African communities of Kenya and Uganda before arrival into Rwanda.
Further visits are planned with a strong confidence of additional orders being placed for more modules.

Horror / Mystery
A short wee read, a screenwriter who fell hard from Hollywood success and landed in a psychiatric ward, blacked out from booze and unmedicated manic depression. This is not the first time he’s come to in restraints, surrounded by friends and family who aren’t there. This time, though, he also awakes to a message from his agent. The first act of his latest screenplay is their ticket back to the red carpets. If only Tommy could remember writing it. Trying to recapture the hallucinations that crafted his masterpiece, he chases his kidnapped childhood love, a witch from the magic shop downstairs, and the Komodo dragon he tried to cut out of his gut one Christmas Eve. The path to professional redemption may be more dangerous than the fall.
