treat Him with an unfair attitude. He is preached as a mere man rather than the Son of Cod with power. In Christ's appearance before Caiaphas we can see the total de­ pravity of man. Look at the cruel and inhuman treatment they heaped on Him (vrs. 67 and 68). They sp it on H im , ph y s ica lly abused Him, and then in mockery taunted Him with disdain. The treatment our Lord received ought to cause us to bow our heads in shame. Yet, men are doing the same today. They boast that His life is not valuable, and curse Him. CAIAPHAS Considering the crucifixtion of our Saviour we find some very in­ teresting personalities who were involved with this important event. The first whom we want to con­ sider is Caiaphas, the high priest of Israel. On the surface it would have seemed that from his hands our Lord would have received fair treatment. Matthew tells us that he and the council had sought false witness against Jesus to put him to death (Matt. 26:59). They had decided He was guilty already. Since His life was a threat to their position He had to be eliminated. Religious representatives today
