Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, exhorts us, "What­ soever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Fa­ ther by Him" (Col. 3:17). If you start work at the age of 21 and re­ tire at 65 you will have put in about 90,000 hours on the job. If you are a housewife you can prob­ ably add another 50,000 hours for good measure. Since so much time and energy has to be ex­ pended, we must keep our goal of glorifying God carefully in fo­ cus. God has a plan for the life of everyone of His children no mat­ ter who they might be. Regardless of your station in life you ought to be able to say, "I being in the way, the Lord led me" (Gen. 24:27). God reserves the right to call each one of His children into the enclosure of His will where every selfish thought and motive are out of bounds. Paul never lost sight of

The Christian, by way of contrast, desires to live accord­ ing to Cods standards of righteous­ ness revealed in the Word of God. As we conduct ourselves in ac­ cord with those principles we will enjoy an unblemished conscience. We can avoid the tragic guiltiness that comes when we fall or fail to do what we know to be our duty. Yes, every believer is charged with the responsibility of living and act­ ing according to Cods standards. Only the Lord has the right to rule in the conscience of an individual. We must keep in mind, however, that conscience can provide accu­ rate judgment only when it is in accord with the Word of God.
