who selfishly builds earthly treas­ ures at the expense of neglecting spiritual responsibilities (vrs. 21). Unquestionably it may well be that hard times are hiding around the next corner. We may feel we have to accumulate now so that we may have a reserve on which to fall back. This is not wrong un­ less it involves things such as ex­ tra jobs that will use both time and energy which should be invested in the service of the Lord. In a mad desperation for things some have given up going to church, teaching Sunday school, and giving God at least some of our valuable hours. The Lord's work and our active participation and interest will be the first to suffer. Perhaps you work so hard that you are too tired to do anything else. When you come to that place you have gone too far. I am not minimizing the importance of money, but the need has to be approached sanely.

We will never be able to possess all of the material comforts we would like. It is so easy to become envious and to desire those things which may well ultimately bring us spiritual defeat. Too many to­ day, unfortunately, Christians as well as unbelievers, foolishly look to financial assets and earthly pos­ sessions to provide themselves se­ curity. We find this so clearly in our Lord's parable of the rich fool beginning in Lke 12:16. What an important passage for us in these days of frantic anguish when peo­ ple vainly seek “just a little more". In this story, rather than putting his increase to some worthwhile spiritual purpose the rich man self­ ishly schemed to hoard them for the future. He thought he could provide for his soul by providing for his body. What folly this was. But many are just like him today. Jesus likened to him everybody
