A MESSAGE FROM CHIEF JUSTICE MATTHEW J. FADER
The Maryland Judiciary’s annual fiscal year statistical abstract is published to showcase critical data reflecting the work of the courts as they serve the people Maryland. Although I present the 2022 Maryland Judiciary Annual Statistical Abstract on behalf of the entire court system, the information highlighted in this report is the direct result of the dedication and hard work of the more than 4,000 Judiciary employees, including judges, magistrates, clerks, executive leadership, case managers, administrative support staff, and many other court professionals who carry out the Judiciary’s mission to provide fair, efficient, and effective justice for all. The data and statistics collected for the abstract include all four levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Maryland, the Appellate Court of Maryland, the state’s circuit courts, and the District Court of Maryland. The statistical abstract comprises trial and appellate court caseload data, and provides information and insight regarding the volume, type, and disposition of cases handled by Maryland courts. This report provides annual data and public information in a transparent and consistent format. As we emerge from the global pandemic, we continue to look for ways to innovate and modernize Maryland’s courts by connecting people, resources, data, and technology. This collective effort ensures that the Maryland Judiciary remains committed to providing equal justice for all and continues to set the bar for excellence in service for state court systems.
