When you think of great leaders, what qualities come to mind? For me, I think of people who make hard decisions, lead by example, and care for those for whom they are responsible. I strive to embody these traits daily as I help my clients with their traffic court needs. I aim to be their go-to person when they have questions and concerns or seek advice. Our truckers spend most of their days on the road, traveling from county to county and state to state. When they receive a traffic citation, they can’t afford to take time off work to attend a court hearing about their ticket. Others may be unsure of what to do when they receive a citation. I want to ease their stress about their tickets. I want my clients to focus on driving and allow me to handle the rest. Our truckers ensure we have the products and supplies to care for our loved ones. If it weren’t for them, our lifestyles would be vastly different. Therefore, I do everything possible to help them because they already do so much for us. One of the ways I can help our truckers and provide them with the best service is by being a leader in my profession. The traits I outlined earlier are always at the forefront of my mind when working on a case, speaking with clients, and defending them in court. Making hard decisions is something I must do each day. Depending on the situation, my strategies differ to get the best possible outcome for my truckers. When making a decision, I first outline all my methods and see which one will work best when considering my client’s needs. By Becoming a Leader
The next trait is to lead by example. One of ways I strive to practice this trait is by having integrity and following through with my words and actions. When I create a strategy and tell my client what I plan on doing, I do it to the best of my abilities. My staff does the same. It is important that our whole team works together to accomplish our client’s objectives. Genuine care for my clients also helps me and my team provide excellent service. I wouldn’t be in this business if I didn’t care about truckers. They have such an essential job, and helping them with their traffic citations is one of the ways I can give back to them. I value our truckers and their work ethic — not everyone has what it takes to do what they do. Not only do I try to lift some weight off their shoulders by taking care of their traffic citations, but I also care about them as individuals. We value our relationship with you and will do anything we can to ensure you have the best experience possible with our firm. When you work with us, you get more than just an attorney — you get a friend and support team. Please reach out to us if you need any help at all. We would love to assist you in any way you need.

How One Pigeon Saved 194 American Soldiers THE STORY OF CHER AMI
Animals have always played a role in military efforts during wartime. Cats were kept aboard naval ships for pest control, horses and camels provided transportation for supplies and soldiers pre-World
Whittlesey decided to dispatch messages by pigeon. The first pigeon got shot down almost immediately, so he sent a second pigeon with the message, “Men are suffering. Can support be sent?” That one also got shot. Finally, Whittlesey turned to his last pigeon, Cher Ami, and scribbled down a quick note on onion paper that read, “We are along the road parallel to 276.4. Our own artillery is dropping a barrage directly on us. For heaven’s sake, stop it.” Cher Ami took flight, but even after being shot down by the Germans, the bird defied the odds and actually took flight again! The effective delivery of this message helped save 194 men, but Cher Ami did not escape unharmed. He had been shot through the breast, blinded in one eye, and had a leg hanging only by a tendon. Army medics treated Cher Ami enough so he could travel to America, where he eventually succumbed to his wounds. The bird was then taxidermied and displayed in the Smithsonian, where you can still see him today. So, the next time you’re in Washington, D.C., stop by the “Price of Freedom” exhibit at the National Museum of American History where you can personally see this brave pigeon.
War II, and dogs are still used to this day for search and rescue efforts as well as mine detection. But one animal profession became obsolete with the advancement of communication technology: messenger. Often used during World War I, many dogs and pigeons became responsible for delivering messages of high importance. Of all the animals used during World War I, one pigeon named Cher Ami defied the odds to save nearly 200 American soldiers. On Oct. 2, 1918, Major Charles Whittlesey got trapped along the side of a hill in Northeastern France with 550 of his men. They ended up behind enemy lines with no food or ammunition, and — to make matters worse — his battalion started to suffer from friendly fire since allied troops remained unaware of their location. With nowhere to run, Whittlesey tried to send runners to contact the allies about their predicament. Unfortunately, their enemies consistently intercepted or killed these runners until only 194 men remained.
TRUCKER HEALTH GUIDE
DEVELOP HEALTHIER HABITS WHILE ON THE ROAD
STAY HYDRATED. Many health issues arise from dehydration; therefore, it’s best to keep a jug of water to sip on at all times. You may have a foggy mind, mood changes, and fatigue if you don’t drink enough water. Consuming more water will increase your energy, help you focus, flush out toxins, and even reduce hunger. GET AT LEAST 8 HOURS OF SLEEP. Sleep is essential for all of us — especially for truckers. It may be difficult to stay on a bedtime
As truckers, you spend most of your time on the road — especially long-haul drivers. You could be away from home for weeks and sometimes even months, making it challenging to develop a healthy lifestyle. But creating a healthy routine is essential because it will benefit you mentally and physically — and help you on the job. Healthy habits reduce the feeling of being burnt out, and you may feel more energized. Here are three ways to improve your lifestyle while living on the road. KEEP NUTRITIOUS SNACKS IN YOUR TRUCK. Some trucks have room for a mini refrigerator, which can be very beneficial on the road. However, if purchasing and placing a mini refrigerator in your truck is not an option, consider investing in a cooler you can bring on your travels. With additional storage space, you can purchase apples, oranges, peaches, grapes, and other nutritious and delicious snacks to keep with you. You can even buy items to make sandwiches or keep granola bars and mixed nuts with you. While it’s easier and tempting to grab a bite to eat at the truck stop, a fast-food center, or the gas station, healthier snacks will fuel your mind and body better as you continue your travels.
routine due to your line of work. However, attempt to create a routine that allows you to relax and rest when you run out of hours. Like dehydration, sleep deprivation can lead to several health issues, so try to find ways to relax and clear your mind when you can. You won’t be able to make all these changes overnight, so take baby steps and adjust your routine based on your needs. With practice, patience, and small changes, you can create a healthier lifestyle that will improve your life on and off the road.

As you drive down the interstate, you will often see signs warning of an upcoming weigh station. With limited exceptions, if you approach an open weigh station, you must stop at it. But what happens if you fail to stop? Well, if you get pulled over and cited for failing to stop, you may be charged with either a misdemeanor (Vehicle Code 2013) or an infraction (Vehicle Code 21461(a)). WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A VC 2813 CHARGE AND A VC 21461(A) CHARGE? The big difference between the two charges is that VC 2813 is a misdemeanor and VC 21461(a) is an infraction. To put it simply, California has three levels of crimes: felonies, misdemeanors, and infractions. The primary difference between the three involve the types of sentences that can be imposed. For our purposes, a person can be sentenced to jail for a misdemeanor (although we’ve never seen a judge impose a jail sentence for a violation of VC 2813), while they can only be fined for an infraction. WHAT ABOUT DMV POINTS? While VC 2813 is categorically a more serious violation (misdemeanor), no DMV negligent operator points are assessed to your record for a VC 2813 violation. However, 1.5 points are assessed for a violation of VC 21461(a)! So, depending on your situation, an officer may be doing you a favor by citing your for a misdemeanor rather than an infraction. It’s strange, but true! HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT’S BEST FOR YOU? If you received a traffic citation because you failed to stop at a weigh station, please call your friends at Bigger & Harman. We will be happy to look at your case and see if we can get your citation dismissed or lowered to a less severe violation. DON’T PASS A WEIGH STATION! What Happens if You Fail to Stop?

MAKE THE MOST OF THE HOLIDAY Spread the Love This Valentine’s Day!
Valentine’s Day is all about showing your dear ones extra love. But you don’t always have to focus on those close to you. Love can be shared with everyone — friends, coworkers, or the community! Here are some ways you and your family can spread the love this holiday.
Also, kids love helping out in the kitchen, so consider baking homemade cookies — or getting the store-bought kind; we don’t judge! Let the kids decorate them with festive Valentine’s designs to bring to school for their classmates and teachers! GET CRAFTY. Nothing is more special than a one-of-a- kind card. Grab some construction paper, markers, glitter, stickers — the works — and have the kids make Valentine’s Day cards! You can work with various organizations to send letters to U.S. troops serving overseas, veteran hospitals, or nursing facilities that would enjoy receiving a handmade card. Fill them with positive words, smiley faces, hearts, and lots of love! You could even send their cards in a Valentine’s Day-themed care
package. But be sure to follow the rules of the organizations you work with.
VOLUNTEER OR DONATE. Do you have any gently used clothing, shoes, blankets, or extra personal hygiene items? Make your way to the local Goodwill, church, or shelter that accepts donations. You could call around to see if any shelters or organizations need helping hands! This is also a great way to spread the love your kids can participate in. Check to see if they need help serving food or if you can prepare or drop off warm meals to those who need them most. You can find many ways to express love and kindness to those you love or complete strangers. No matter how you spend this day, remember to spread the love to everyone!
MAKE A HOMEMADE MEAL OR SOME GOODIES.
They always say a way to a person’s heart is through their stomach! Everyone loves a warm, homemade meal, and it can be fun to get the entire family involved. Gather the ingredients of your favorite dish and make something tasty for your local fire or police department. These people work daily to keep us safe, and a simple gesture like this may bring a smile to their faces and remind them they are appreciated.
