The proposal choses to focus the intervention on the northwestern side of the park, the one most lacking in terms of tree species, uses and universal accessibility. This is why the building for the Human Museum is virtually the functional construction of the boundary of San Borja Park. One of the project design opportunities is the creation of a circuit that allows leisure walks. Along this route, almost entirely at ground level, the sculptures of Mario Irarrázaval are placed to enable the appreciation of his entire work. For the museum building the proposal replaces the existing slope in the northwest front by a linear pavilion covered by a roof at level with the park; the western and northern fronts open onto the street and the existing fence is replaced by the new building. The latter opens onto an outdoor exhibition courtyard bordered by the wall of perforated rusty steel, a material chosen to relate to the neighboring Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center, aiming to establish a cultural district. Finally, the place that has become a popular pilgrimage site due to the death of Daniel Zamudio is proposed as the access square to the museum. Glazed facades reflect the existing greenery and contain the public elements of the program (cafeteria, library and shop).
La propuesta opta por concentrar la intervención en el lado norponiente del parque, el más deficitario en términos de especies arbóreas, de uso y de accesibilidad universal. Por esto el edificio para el Museo Humano es prácticamente la construcción programática del límite del Parque San Borja. Una de las oportunidades del proyecto es la creación de un circuito que permita pasear. A lo largo de este recorrido, prácticamente a nivel, se propone la disposición de las esculturas de Mario Irarrázaval de modo que se pueda ver la totalidad de la obra. Para el edificio museo se propone reemplazar el talud existente en el frente norponiente por un pabellón lineal, cuya cubierta está al nivel de suelo del parque; el frente poniente y norte se abren hacia la calle y se reemplaza la reja existente por el nuevo edificio. Este se abre a un patio de exposición exterior delimitado por el muro de acero oxidado perforado, material escogido para relacionarlo con el vecino GAM y en búsqueda de definir un distrito cultural. Finalmente, se propone que el lugar que se ha transformado en punto de peregrinación popular por la muerte de Daniel Zamudio sea la plaza de acceso al museo. Sus fachadas vidriadas reflejarían el verde existente y contendría las partes más públicas del programa (cafetería, librería y tienda).
