TOMÁS ECHIBURÚ Arquitectos / Architects: Rebecca Jane Emmons, Daslav Bremer, Diego García Jefe de proyecto / Project manager: Tomás Echiburú Artista visual / Visual Artist: Luis Montes Se propone recuperar la condición de remate de las torres en relación al parque, extendiendo los ejes paralelos de la Plaza de la Aviación hasta la Plaza Atria y el Anfiteatro de las torres, donde será emplazado el monumento a Fernando Castillo Velasco; el objetivo es vincular de manera explícita este nuevo monumento con los preexistentes –Rodó y la Aviación– para formalizar un eje monumental cuyo remate vertical hacia el oriente sean las propias Torres de Tajamar. Para abordar el problema de desconexión peatonal de un modo integral se propone un área de intervención mayor a la solicitada en las bases. De esta forma, el proyecto responde a la vocación urbana de la plaza como un nodo que articula flujos provenientes de todas direcciones con prioridad peatonal, sin descuidar la dimensión local y comunitaria, en relación a las torres y sus habitantes.
The proposal restores the role of the towers as the ending of the park, extending the parallel axis from the Aviation Plaza to Atria Plaza and the towers’ amphitheater, where the monument to Fernando Castillo Velasco will be erected; the objective is to explicitly link this new monument with the existing ones –Rodó and the Aviation– giving shape to a monumental axis whose eastern vertical end are the Tajamar Towers. To address the issue of pedestrian interruption in a comprehensive way the proposal involves an area larger than the established in the competition rules. The project therefore responds to the urban vocation of the square as a node that articulates flows from all directions, giving priority to pedestrians without neglecting the local and community dimension in relation to the towers and their inhabitants.
