Looking to do something a little different for a 4-H project for Kyle and an investment for Grandma Rita, Vawnita went looking for an American Aberdeen + (Moderator) heifer. At Deep Creek Seedstock (DCS) in Mitchelle, Nebraska - Dean & Jillean Pike, they found Luna, Norse’s dam. Kyle showed her as a bred heifer and then this summer as a 3-year old cow-calf pair.
The American Aberdeen Association has been interesting to study. The descendants of the original Australian ‘low-lines’, the association has embraced its base genetics from that closed herd of highly efficient Angus and brought back outside genetics as ABERDEEN + MODERATORs. In doing so, DCS has infused some of the most sought after COLEMAN and DUFF performance cattle and aligned them with highly efficient, ‘Maternal by Nature’ Australian lowline Angus genetics. With his 78 # birthweight and performance Angus pedigree, we recommend ‘501’ for cows, particularly when you want to reduce frame size without discouraging weaning weight or replacement heifer quality. Maternal excellence is the Foundation of our Horse Program.
