La ciudad de Valdivia fue elegida como capital cultural de América 2015, basándose en su historia, su colonización y riqueza patrimonial, su perfil de ciudad universitaria y turística, sus festivales y avances para ser polo científico. Se identifica entonces la necesidad de desarrollar un espacio icónico. Ante el problema que presenta la lluvia para el aprovechamiento del espacio urbano abierto, se plantea un espacio público subterráneo. Un espacio protegido que a la vez restablece la conexión entre la ciudad y el río. Se busca una nueva forma de habitar el centro de la ciudad, acorde a la realidad climática y que aporte a la identidad de Valdivia. The city of Valdivia was chosen as the 2015 cultural capital of America, based on its history, colonization and the wealth of heritage, its profile as a university and tourist city, its festivals and progress as a scientific center. Therein arises the need to develop an iconic space. To tackle the problem the rain presents for the use of urban open spaces, the proposal is based on an underground public space, a protected space that simultaneously resets the connection between the city and the river. It constitutes a new way of inhabiting the city center, responding to the real climate and contributing to the identity of Valdivia.
