Personalize Every Child’s Path to Literacy Success
Technology will never replace great teachers, but technology in the hands of a great teacher can be transformational. — George Couros, Author of The Innovator’s Mindset
Equity and Excellence We must strive for equity in education, as all students may not have the same instructional needs, but all children need instruction in the same skills. Propelling students to success begins with meeting them where they are and providing each with a personalized learning path. Digital programs offer equitable instruction to all children, free of bias and judgment. In recent years, Scholastic has invested millions of dollars in developing innovative, personalized learning programs with robust data to inform instruction—in order to deliver truly equitable learning opportunities that can be accessed in school, at home, or on the go. With a clear focus on foundational reading skills, vocabulary acquisition, word knowledge, and independent and instructional reading, Scholastic digital solutions put all students on a learning trajectory of success. Beginning as an educator
Research suggests that student choice and volume are the two most powerful factors for improving reading motivation and comprehension (Guthrie & Humenick, 2004). When students pick what they read, they take ownership of their literacy development and gain confidence in their abilities as readers. Students see the value of book choice, with nine out of ten agreeing that their favorite books are the ones they pick out themselves (Scholastic, 2018).
