FAO's award for the Geospatial Platform was part of the "Digital Agriculture" session and provided an opportunity to highlight FAO's strong commitment to digital transformation, as well as the importance of partnerships, allowing the HiH Geospatial Platform to effectively help to improve the lives of farmers around the world and create efficient, inclusive and resilient agrifood systems.

International Conference on Digital Agriculture

On the joint initiative of FAO and the Government of Azerbaijan, the International Conference on Digital Agriculture, organized 6 May 2022, brought together various stakeholders to share global experiences, visions and developments in the area of agricultural and digital rural transformation, and to look at the Azerbaijani example, as well as to share good practices and discuss replication across different countries.

The conference brought together the FAO Director-General, Chief Economist and CSI Director, as well as high-level representatives from several countries and organizations and technical experts working on digital agriculture on the ground.

World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2022

The WSIS Forum represents the world's largest annual gathering of the ICT for development community. The closing week of the WSIS Forum 2022 took place from 30 May to 3 June 2022 at the ITU headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland under the theme of "ICTs for Well-Being, Inclusion and Resilience: WSIS Cooperation for Accelerating Progress on the SDGs". FAO presented how technology is harnessing digital for impact at a high-level breakfast meeting with the leaders from the United Nations Group on the Information Society. Key points included the role of digital technologies towards accelerating impact and how this is reflected in FAO's Strategic Framework, underpinned by innovation, data, technology and regulatory and policy complements. FAO also chaired a panel discussion on ICTs for well-being, inclusion and resilience, with a focus on digital skills for youth and women in agriculture. Panel members discussed the needs and challenges to improving digital literacy and digital skills and the impacts of these efforts to digital inclusion in the agriculture sector, as well as other potential opportunities for investment in digital agriculture. In addition, FAO was involved in the WSIS Forum 2022 session “Digital Public Goods and Climate Change Adaptation”, where it highlighted the importance of digital public goods through a presentation on the use of open data.
