Towards a more inclusive IT and fostering change: Girls in ICT Campaign Seizing the momentum of the International Day for Girls in ICT, FAO launched an internal campaign to promote the role of girls and women in the technology sector, raise awareness and encourage women’s professional development in this field. A special Women’s Committee VirtualiTea on the topic was organized to discuss access to careers in ICT for girls and women, as well as the publication of a special op-ed. The campaign has been extended throughout the year with a series of video interviews featuring inspiring women working in IT in FAO across the world to amplify their voices and foster female role models in ICT careers for sustainable agrifood systems. This was also a time to hear from them and to take stock of their experience as women in tech in FAO to ensure that the Organization's workplace environment is accessible, gender equal and empowering, and that it attracts women talents to contribute to the digital arm of FAO’s work.

More inclusion work: FAO efforts for enhanced digital accessibility for all In 2022, several areas were reviewed for digital accessibility, including the Global Resources Management System (GRMS), the HiH Geospatial Platform website and the HiH Platform new welcome feature in order to meet the W3C Accessibility Standards (a set of international recognized standards for web development and web content). The aim was to ensure that the set of guidelines for digital accessibility was considered in the development process of key products, and a report with additional recommendations was provided following the review of the first three pilot areas. Work was also done in parallel to review HiH Geospatial Platform website, including the HiH welcome feature, in order to include a standard set of recommendations for websites moving forward to include specific features in the code. All recommendations were shared with the responsible teams, implemented where technically possible, in addition to guidelines for future video editing to ensure that videos produced in the future meet accessibility standards for the visually impaired.
