Le club Joie de vivre 50 + d’Embrun, en collaboration avec le Club Optimiste d’Embrun, a fait une collecte d’argent en organisant, les 7 et 8mars derniers, un tournoi de quilles afin d’amasser des fonds pour la finition du parc à jets d’eau au parc Yahoo. Francine Plourde, responsable du tournoi, et Lorraine Dicaire (centre) ont travaillé tout le week-end pour faire en sorte que l’événement soit un succès. Le tournoi de quilles a permis d’amasser 2200$. Julie Brisson et Stéphane Gougeon, du Club Optimiste d’Embrun, Lorraine Dicaire, présidente du Club Joie de vivre, et André Brisson, conseiller municipal de Russell, étaient bien heureux du montant amassé au cours de ce week-end. Absente : Francine Plourde, présidente du club Joie de vivre 50 +.

Mayor Leroux launches Board Games Day event

group of tabletop gaming enthusiasts, it has become a springtime worldwide festival of fun with TableTop Day 2014 featuringmore than 3000 events in 80 countries across all seven continents, and that includes Antarc- tica. “It’s a family day kind of thing,” said Le- roux, who is working on organizing a local TableTop Day event with Jeff St-Pierre, son of the late-mayor Jean-Paul St-Pierre. Jeff St-Pierre is owner-operator of Kessel Run Games inOrléans, and Star Wars fans should recognize the Kessel Run as one of the key triumphs for smuggler-hero Han Solo who claims to have set a speed record for the dangerous star route. St-Pierre and his Kessel Run colleagues will bring an assortment of some of the newer types of board games they have at their establishment to the Palais de Sport Hall Embrun Arena’s mezzanine on April 11, from1 to 8 p.m. It will be a full-on hands-on event with tabletop gamers of any and all ages encouraged to try their hand at playing the games. Leroux hopes to see a big turnout for TableTop Day in Russell Township. “I want families, I want kids, I want eve- ryone to be involved,” he said. “It’s going to be a free event.” Further details on the Mayor’s Interna- tional TableTop Day Celebration will be available through a special Facebook page. Leroux is even willing to consider taking on any and all comers at one of the board games. “It depends on the game,” he said, chuckling. “I guess I could take on a chal- lenge. Maybe.”
It might be that Mayor Pierre Leroux is tired of nothing but golf tournament fundraisers andwants something different. Or that he just likes playing board games. Or that he is just “board” and wants everyone to be “board” with him at least one day of the year. Whatever the reason, and noting that Mayor Leroux is not responsible for any “pun-ishing” prose in this report, families all over Russell Township are invited tomark down April 11 on their calendars for the inaugural Mayor’s International TableTop Day Celebration. International TableTop Day is an unoffi- cial day created to celebrate tabletop gaming of all sorts, from checkers and chess toMo- nopoly and Risk and everything old and new in between.
