Wellstar led an all-hands-on-deck effort to protect the communities that needed us the most through a historic pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic represented an unprecedented time for our community, state and nation. Amid the pandemic, Wellstar served as a trusted community anchor to keep our community members safe. The information below reflects key outcomes from our work from 2020 to 2023. Goal 1. Reduce Misinformation Reduce misinformation through the distribution of health education for communities experiencing more than their fair share of the impact of COVID-19. Key Activities: ■ Activated two nurses to support the Wellstar COVID-19 Call Center ■ Served as a participating member of the Morehouse School of Medicine National COVID-19 Resiliency Network (NCRN)*, facilitating virtual English-language and Spanish-language townhalls, and two community-based events (valued at $5,000±) with faith partners in the Wellstar Congregational Health Network (CHN) ■ Held a COVID-19 Vaccine Town Hall in Collaboration with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. centered on reaching the African-American community ■ Held weekly COVID-19 briefings for the community at-large and faith partners within our CHN, in collaboration with Wellstar Spiritual Health, to communicate COVID-19 risk factors and current Wellstar Health System policies ■ With support from Wellstar Foundation, partnered with the Center for Global Health Innovation (CGHI) to deploy Community Health Workers, and partnered with Ser Familia for two “Promotoras” ■ Disseminated COVID-19 information through our “Wellstar on Wheels” Mobile Market, and within our sponsored “Perinatal Care Packages” partnership with Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Georgia (HMHBGA)
Virtual Health Education ■ 1,190 local participants ■ 14,000 national participants
Outreach ■ 1,300 encounters by Community Health Workers ■ 45,000+ responsive calls in the call center
Improved Accessibility ■ Among a sample of events conducted in our Cobb and Douglas footprint, 63% (276 of 441) participants required translation services delivered by our Promotora.
