Our Keynote Speaker: Dr Robert Van Saun
Dr. Van Saun is a professor and extension veter- inarian with Pennsylvania State University and has been on faculty since 2000. He previously was on faculty at Oregon State University Col- lege of Veterinary Medicine where he was intro- duced to South American camelids. He uniquely has not only his professional training as a vet- erinarian but completed graduate studies in nutrition. Dr. Van Saun has completed research projects dealing with vitamin D, hepatic lipidosis, and trace mineral nutrition in llamas and alpac- as. He has ongoing research in Peru addressing various nutritional issues of alpacas. He has authored most of the scientific texts describing nutrition and nutritional diseases of llamas and alpacas and was responsible for the nutrient requirement models for llamas and alpaca feed- ing published in the National Research Council 2007 publication.
