differently about the way we planned and set aside monies in different accounts to ensure that the current assets of the Club were replaced/maintained on a schedule going forward, and that we were en- hancing the member experience through upgrades to current assets. Further, the Club needs to be forward thinking and have a long range plan for improving the assets of the Club. The board then worked with our CFO to create a ten year schedule for capital projects. Below are the different components of Club dues, and a general description of each of their uses: Initiation Fees: An Initiation Fee is paid by new mem- bers to join our Club. These fees are best utilized for projects that improve the competitive position of the Club, such as the new capital projects like the gym expansion to house fitness classes. General Dues: For the payment of operating costs of the Club. Think employee wages in the different departments of the Club, Food and Beverage Expenses, various fixed costs, and other expenses that are ongoing and related to the day to day opera- tions of the Club. General dues should be set at a rate that covers the costs of the general operational costs of the Club. Capital Dues: This category is earmarked to maintain current assets that are depreciating, and to make capital improvements to the Club to remain
Happy Holidays to everyone! It’s been great to see everyone enjoying the Club
over the last month.
I have a couple of updates on the Mixed Grille Expansion project. The architect will be submitting the plans to the Building Department for review and approval within the next few days. The Club is hopeful that the review goes as quickly as possible. The Club will also be sending out invitations to bid to a number of local contractors on the project shortly. Pictures/slides of the Mixed Grille Expansion will be posted on the Club’s web site for Club members by the end of next week. Club management, from time to time, gets questions on the different components of the Club’s monthly membership dues. As you may remember, the Club engaged Club Benchmark (“CB”) as a consultant several years ago. CB is recognized as one of the foremost authorities on best practices for the operation(s) of country clubs like ours. CB reviewed all operations of the Club from top to bottom over a yearlong period. One of the important things the Club learned was that we needed to earmark different sources of revenue (Dues) in a way that focused on both the long- and short-term health of the Club. Specifically, the Club needed to think

competitive in the market place. Several examples would be recent upgrades to the Club’s air-conditioning systems, the remodel of the library and banquets rooms, and the Mixed Grille Expansion. Special Dues: Special Dues are assessed from time to time after a membership vote. These dues/assessments are for specific projects such as the Mixed Grille. The dues end when designated projects are paid off in full. The Board’s goal is to utilize all these sources to best enhance and maintain our Country Club in a way that conforms to best practices. I wish everyone a great 2024! We are very excited about our upcoming Club improvements and the great events that we have planned throughout the year. Our selection for January...
World War II has just ended, and Britain has established the Control Commission for Germany, which oversees their zone of occupation. The Cont- rol Commission hires British civilians to work in Germany, rebuild the shattered nation and prosecute war crimes. Somewhat aimless, bored with her job as a provincial schoolteacher, and unwilling to live with her overbearing mother any longer, thirtysomething Edith Graham applies for a job with the Commission - but she is also recruited by her cousin, Leo, who is in the Secret Service. To them, Edith is perfect spy material...single, ordinary-looking, with a college degree in German. Intrigued by the challenge, Edith heads to Germany armed with a convincing cover story: she's an

unassuming Education Officer sent to help resurrect German schools. To send information back to her Secret Service handlers in London, Edith has crafted the perfect alter ego, cookbook author Stella Snelling, who writes a popular magazine cookery column. She embeds crucial intelligence wit- hin the recipes she collects. But occupied Germany is awash with other spies, collaborators, and opportunists, and as she's pulled into their world, Edith soon discovers that no one is what they seem to be.
